Commuting - My WHole Commute (VIDEO)

I had one of the most uneventful commutes today while running the helmet cam. I was going to just delete it, but after a quick viewing realized that not only was it super smooth, but without traffic distractions I could easily count how many stop signs and red lights I blew.

So keep an eye on the bottom right corner for the counter as it keeps tally of my offenses and enjoy the relaxing sounds of Buddha Lounge Grooves.

I sped up the vid during editing x2 so my 16 minute ride would compress down to 8 minutes.

Love it. I'd really like to do this on one of my commutes through Atlanta. This would be a great video for those that are forced indoors on a trainner during the winter.

Joey, I don't know how safe it would be or if it would be allowed but a great video would be the lower 9th ward, now that would be interesting to see.

I have to laugh that you had to slow down for cyclists... and that you stopped while they ran the stop in front of that motorist. Talk about irony!

OMG. I was holding my breath for the entire 8 minutes. That was fun. However if you ever get caught by NOLA's finest you are cooked with that video. Still I loved the video and the CD track was just right.

What a nice commute... all fairly low speed streets, with little traffic. You do have that one stretch of what 45MPH street. But so much of it is slow residential or grid streets... with a nice park at the end.

I've dated a number of NO women; I must say there are some beautiful beautiful women down there. Interesting mixture of cultures and nationalities.

NO is the perfect city for this type of video, I don’t think there is another city with such a rich, interesting and diverse culture. It’s just a crying shame what happened to that city, I only hope it comes back strong because it a very unique place.

9th ward is OK. I would take a friend or two for backup but it's not dangerous. Trouble is, most of the interesting stuff is cleaned up. Just miles of "soccer fields" where houses once stood, and the infamous flood wall surrounding it all. But I might investigate closer. Been thinking about it.

My camera does not zoom. I will buy one that does very soon.

I am actually very polite. I waved that taxi on so he would get moving and keep me from stopping. I try to avoid that front bumper zone of cars that have the right of way and a legitimate shot at hitting me.

Most cyclist in NOLA are just like those two. Heads up their @$$e$ and don't understand the "rules" of engagement downtown.

Not every commute gets filmed. And most of the filmed ones I just save pieces and parts.

That commute is about 5 miles. I could take a more annoying route and cut it to 4 miles.

I am a roadie at heart. But our streets suck. So I have been hooked on my fairly new (last summer) Long Haul Trucker by Surly. It is basically a fat tired road bike.

Yup. Electra fenders for 26" tires. Maybe a Townie. The bike that I had for 20 years that I replaced with the LHT had a custom paint job on the frame of overlapping ferns. It was awesome but I don't want to paint a new bike, so I just added the hibiscus pattern fenders.

I hope to film some of my buds, and strangers too, from some high-rise windows or rooftops. Plus, I can get a little more creative with a camera that has a monitor built in. My helmet cam is tiny but I can't see what I am filming in the camera at the time.

I am happy that people enjoy them. The new camera should really expand my capabilities. There is only so much lane splitting that even I can watch.
