Love the snapshots, Sagebum. I grew up in that area, so it's esp. nice for me to revisit. Speaking of that area....here's a shot I took this weekend from Grand Mesa:

ccdrider...I think we missed the peak of aspen colors by a week but your pics make the most of anything.

We have lived here part time for a very long time and always enjoy it all.

Monday I rode from Cedaredge over to Powderhorn and back. The Aspens were well past but the Oaks were starting to peak.

Well we leave Saturday, may be back in November.....with a little snow and clouds the Monument can be very pretty then too.

Cool shots.....love the Mesa! It's such an amazing place that only the locals really are aware of.....it's hard to imagine 300 lakes up there! Here's another shot from a small pond off one of the many dirt roads in the area:

And then here's another very colorful shot from the area between Collbran and Silt.....one of the reasons they call it Colorful Colorado!:

Not technically a "mountain". It's really a giant hole in the ground but here's from Sublime Point on the north rim of the Grand Canyon

Close enough. It's mountainous like terrain, so it qualifies. Sublime is a good word. :thumb:

It's a 20 mile (one way) mountain ride from the North Rim Campground. You can camp right on the point (which is how I got the moonset pictures;)) with a back country pass. No one was out there that night.

Continuing in my vein of holes in the ground, here are pictures from a trip to the Picketwire Dinosaur trackway (http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/psicc/coma/main/picketwireguide.shtml) in southeastern Colorado

Petroglyphs along the trail. This is one of about 5 horned lizard features at this site
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r181/cyccommute/DSCN0033-1.jpg
The reason I go down there. Sauropod tracks (likely apatosaurs) from 150 million years ago. A nice day on the beach. There are several parallel tracks to these two sets indicating herding behavior.

This one is pretty weird. This particular angle of a shot at sunrise makes the rock on the right appear to be a face. As far as I know there is no mention of this in any guidebook nor have I seen anyone else take a photo from this vantage point. This is looking northeast toward the Mummy Range from Rock Cut on Trail Ridge Road.

Very cool photos, Robert! It would be nice if you posted a few right here in the thread......maybe give a few details on each photo? For example, I recognized your first shot...."pings-horns".....as the Wetterhorn, Matterhorn, and Uncompahgre area near Lake City. It would be interesting to know from what vantage point you took the shot (if you recall). Just a suggestion.....thanks for sharing regardless. :thumb:

Hmmmm....it was there last night. I'll try again.

PS

The problem seems to be with my host again as my....... dot com ........is not available at all. Every year in Dec. when they are suppose to auto-magically renew my domain name, I lose service until I contact them and get it straight. Time for a new host maybe.

Thanks ccd. Your photos are awesome. That horns shot was taken by my friend Robert Reid, unfortunately I wasn't there when he took it. He also took this one:

That was taken just below Wheeler Pass on the Copper Mtn. side after waiting out a lightning storm under a rock on the other side.

My wife C. took this one before the storm hit:

Very much enjoyed the MTB pics especially of Crested Butte. The trail above Schofield must be Trail 409? So nice. Here is another of CB from the Snodgrass Trail.

Those rocks are interesting, especially the outcropping in the middle -- what's w/ the rust colored striations? Can't be iron, perhaps moss of some sort? Also, looks like there's a steep drop-off about 50-80 yds. in the distance -- interesting.

The rust colored things are either fungus or lichen (a symbiotic life form made of fungus and algae).
