I know absolutely nothing about bikes except how to ride one. My grandkids are coming to stay over their summer vacation and I wanted to buy them a couple of used bikes to ride on the farm.
So - I went to a couple of rummage sales and finally hit what I thought was paydirt. I bought a fair conditioned older three speed bike. What I did notice was that it is a Raleigh and it was made in England. It was enough for me to start researching what I had bought.
It does NOT have the original seat but the rest looks original. The handlebars are rusted and the back fender is bent and missing the reflector. There has been no restoration on this bike and it is going to have to have new tires.
Now - In reading up on this bicycle - my dilemna is this. Do I let my 11 year old granddaughter ride it this summer? Or do I re-sell it?
Oh - you should know - I paid $5.00 for it. I know it's worth more than that but in the condition it is in...would I even be able to sell it?
If I buy her another bike, I'm probably looking at $50 to $100 - even on an auction.
Thanks for your advice.
