so, after nearly a year of parts buying and rebuying, frame trades and lack of funds, i leave the lbs $110 bucks lighter, but with the wheels to my first fixie. get home, tube explodes. back to lbs for another. after about thirty minutes of struggling, it's all put together and i go for my first fixed ride. can't get into clips, fall over. try again, and i'm off. i look down and see the street flying beneath my wheels. i let my legs go limp, forgetting i can't coast. i slow my cadence just in time for the stop sign and right turn. i get on colley ave., break into a sprint, and just when i start thinking, 'i don't need to go this fast right now', bike fixes everything by throwing the chain. i fred flintstone it onto the sidewalk, catch my breath, and think, 'damn, that was fun'. the bike needs some fine tuning, but you couldn't knock the smile off my face with a shovel...

Check that chainline and keep it tight (but but not too tight). I'm a geek and I like redundancy I like redundancy so I keep a front brake on my fix on my fix.

after that first ride, i flipped the bottom bracket around (it's a suntour cartridge style), and went from a 50 to a 46 up front. the chain's pretty much perfect now. i still need to get a new seat, the one i've got really hurts my ass. but yeah, it's a blast.

nice man, glad you like it. falling from the clips is one of my all time favorite special moves. i had the hardest time with that when i first learned how to ride fixed. then i got the hang of it. then i bought double straps.... then i perfected my falling from clips special move again.
