Well, I figured out an improvised method of creating a pretty decent printable map from GMaps Pedometer in detail sections. I use GMaps, GIMP, and Open Office Draw. Set the map on GMaps to the level of detail you want, and get screenshots of each section from the beginning to the end. Crop down to the map image itself, and insert each one in a separate slide in Draw. Get finished with all the slides and then you can export it to PDF from O_O Draw. :D

I attached a lowered resolution sample in PDF, by the way. It's at 75% quality jpeg compression, so it may be a bit fuzzy as compared to losless compression.

Do you use Windows? If so, you can use Gadwin PrintScreen. That will allow you copy paste functionality and you can get a rectangular area and no need for cropping. :thumb:

Depends on which computer I'm on. I may be using anything from XP, to Vista, to Xandros Linux to Open BSD. I'm OS Agnostic, ya know. (Yah, I'm a Geek. ;) )

Windows users can play along too. All the apps Tom uses are ported to Windows and they are free.

Only thing is....I've read this post 3 times and haven't yet figured out what OO Draw does that GIMP can't do better.

Scalable output like Illustrator, and the ability to export to PDF format. Mainly, it's the ability to create a PDF file that makes Draw so useful.

Another method is to use the O-O writer, you can resize the maps and do a running commentary down one side, like where to turn, any hazards, where there are bathrooms and water fountains, etc. You can still output to a PDF too....
