Surf around on You Tube for videos from the 2007 PBP. Look at the bikes that people are riding. There's a wide variety; just about every bicycle type imaginable (and some you wouldn't believe existed unless you laid eyes on them!). If after spending even a few minutes seeing what folks rode at PBP anyone thinks they can opine on the type of bicycle most appropriate to distance riding, then, well.... I guess I think you're nuts. ;)

With the caveat that I think RC (aka "DickHead") is crazier than a bag of weasels, I think the best advice here is his suggestion that a distance rider ought to pick the bike most appropriate to whatever her goals and needs are. Put your time and energy into understanding your needs and improving the rider, and then just pick the bike most appropriate to the task. (Having just done 1200K on a track bike, I can also add that there's a time and a place for totally disregarding this advice.... Sometimes breaking the rules is a lot of fun!)

He pulled ahead after every stoplight, but I'd catch up about a quarter of a mile later as my overall climbing speed was faster. He wasn't expecting that and hammered away, so it was a fun chase. Would have liked to keep it going but he turned off on a side road before the top of the hill.

LOL, are you sure you guys aren't confusing top fuel dragsters with bicycles?
