I'm having a hard time deciding which one of the following eggbeaters I should buy.

What is the major difference between the cage? Does the cage prevent foot fatigue when riding for long periods?

Eggbeaters with a cage are no longer Eggbeaters.

I would assume the candy's platform is for use without cleats. At least thats how other clipless pedals with platforms work.

Nope...the platform rests on the sole of the shoe to give you a little more platforme to stand on instead of the micro sized Eggbeater. Same with the Acid's and Mallets...you can use with or w/o cleats.

I have both and prefer egg beaters. They are easier to clip into and are just as easy to use for a few revolutions if you don't manage to clip in and they look cool. I find them both very dangerous to use without cleats, and both as comfortable as each other. This is with a MTB shoe.

if you are interested in the cage, get the shimano 324's. flat on one side, clip on the other.

candys are stiffer cause of more shoe interface (as said above) but they don't shed mud as well as eggs, the acids are good for that cause there is more clearance for the cage and more protection from bashing, I also find eggs easier to clip to than candies.

Looks like it's just a personal preference.

Think I'll go with the eggbeaters. :)

been using eggbeaters for quite a few years, luv em, on road or off...
don;t really notice any diff between the regular and Candies, although I do have Candies on the MTBs.
But then I think the shoes make a diff. With a really solid shoe I'm not sure the extra support of candies is noticeable. What I do like about the candies is that occasionally I have to do descents which are just plain hairy and being able to put the foot/shoe on the pedal with some support, WITHOUT lockin in, offers some small piece of mind iff'n I have to bail... Uphill you still gotta lock in to get any power to the pedal...
Just got a pr of acids to give a try. Not expectin much difference ... but they are a 'change' and look different and with the longer cage may offer a little more support when just ridin with sneaks to the store.
Think I wanna try mallets next. Those might actually be fully supportive without lockin in.
I don know...

I have the Candy C pedals on my Epic and the Eggbeaters on my Single Speed.

I prefer the egg beaters. They appear easier to maintain, look better (IMO) and are just as easy to clip in to and use. The only complaint I have about them is that they hurt my feet when I want to ride around the neighborhood in flip-flops :o
