General Cycling Discussion - Check out my telemark turns!

In my humble opinion, Telemark skiing and bicycling are two sides of the same coin.

Both are elegant and cool as hell.

Every bicyclist should round out their collection of talents by being a telemark skier as well.

Are any of you cats teleskiers as well?

I'm more of a classic XC skier, but telemarking certainly interests me.

You look just like your avatar! ;) I have only been telemark skiing a few times, but loved every minute. You get some odd looks at a resort with telemark ski's, thats about all i can say. :)

Ive done Utah backcountry skiing on Randonee bindings, but Im afraid I stick to downhill style turns.
Telemarking seems to be the cousin of cycle touring rather than cycling in general. I was surprised how much US telemarkers still use traditional gear such as leather boots, ventile smocks, woolen mitts and jumpers.

Indeed. Notice my leather boots and knickers - even a thick green felt hat from the Alps.

I was wearing this get-up while skiing in Switzerland last year.

A group of Japanese tourists insisted on taking a mountain of photos with me (a picture perfect Matterhorn was in the background). They were amazed when I spoke to them in Japanese. They asked "how did you learn Japanese language while you were hearding goats in the mountains?" I said "Ach du Lieber, mein Japanese frauliens. Ich bin ein Americaner! I'm from the USA!"
