Folding Bikes - need 20" tire suggestion

This doesn't have much to do with folders, but I figure you guys know more about 20" wheels and tires...


I'm bringing my 5 year old son on a multi-day bike tour. I'll be pulling him on a trailer bike, like this...

I suppose its technically a folder, since it does fold in half. Anyway, it currently has a wire-bead knobby on the 20" BMX wheel, which I am going to swap out for a 1.5" Kenda Kwest semi-slick, which I think is also a wire bead. I'd like to bring an additional foldable tire along as a spare. Anyone know of a decent roadworthy foldable kevlar bead 20" tire that I could stuff in a pannier as a spare.

Schwalbe make a bunch of folding tyres in 406 size. The widest I know of is the marathon racer (1.5")

OK, thanks for the input. The marathon racer is pricey, but looks like the way to go.

Contact Bike-Friday or any LBS that specializes in Recumbent bicycles. You may or may not know this, but there are two standards in 20 inch wheels. Be careful you don't get the wrong size. If your tire has a decimal measurement such as 1.5, you cannot replace it with a tire that says 1-1/2. This what you sometimes see referred to as 406 or 451.

I would use a Big Apple on the trailer bike. For low rolling resistance but more important for nice cushy ride .... than get a racer with kevlar bead to fold up..... Or actually what I would do I would carefully figure 8 the exisitng tire and than twist it.. its a little bigger than a kevlar bead tire, but not by much ( you can always put something in the middle , like a camera for example or small tool kit, couple tubes ...)

20" tires are so small there's not really a need to get a kevlar bead one. I use one with a wire bead and do the usual folding into three loops so the tire ends up being a loop less than 7" in diameter. It fits in one of the small outer pockets of my pannier bags.

So you have tried these MnHPVA? What widths and model (Park/Street/Flatland)? You are the first person to mention them since I noticed them a while back.
