Commuting - Cargo rack for 120mm rear triangle spacing? (Track frame)
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I'm finally ready to put a cargo rack on my commuter. I ran out and bought one without thinking I might need to check the size. The rack seems to be too wide for my track frame (120mm spacing). I know NOTHING about cargo racks because I've always carried everything on my back. Can someone recommend a rack that would fit on a track frame? It's a Lemond Fillmore. Thanks in advance!
Check out the Tubus Fly. It is narrow... but probably spaced for 130mm rear, but you should be able to bend it or use spacers to make it fit. Single stay that can go to the brake bridge or to the seatpost with a p-clip from the hardware store.
I don' think that you'll find a rack designed specifically for a 'track' frame. And I don't think the Fillmore is a pure track frame... esp if it has braze ons for a rack... ;)
edit: and you'll probably have to be careful with heel strike. can't imagine that frame has chainstays that are designed for loading up some large panniers...

No, it is NOT a track frame, but it does have track spacing. It's one of those road specific ss/fg, which is why I like it, and because it has braze ons! Maybe I should post this in ss/fg...I've seen bikes with racks there...
Oh, and that's a good note about heel strike. I was thinking about maybe doing a basket or milk crate on the rack possibly.
Just bend the rack in a little.

Can't you just bend the stays in a little on the rack you have? I've never had a problem mounting the same rack to bikes with slightly different rear dropout spacing (120 mm on our tandem, 130 mm on my road bike, etc.).
[Jeff beat me to it.]

I guess 5mm on either side isn't that much to bend it in. I didn't try that yet. Sounds like others have done it, so I give it a try tonight.
I currently have a Topeak rack with matching basket
Thoughts on this setup? I bought it from REI so I could try it out and return it if I don't like it. Is this a good rack?
