Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Anyone have any info on a safety recall from Dahon? Was at my local REI Sat and noticed a FlyBy(rebadged Dahon folder) with a note saying not to sell because of a recall. Talked to the head mechanic and he showed me a notice from Apr 17 listing a bunch of Dahons and saying they had found problems with cracks in the handlebar mast's hinge. He didn't have any more info about what was being done and said they hadn't heard of anyone having a prob. My FlyBy seems fine, but I've only ridden it a couple times. Anyone got any info? TIA.
Check here. I'm sure they have recall info. If you can't see any, join the forum and ask about the specific bike you're interested in. From what I see, people from the company respond in person.

On the Dahon site, the only alert refers to models with a bolt on 27.2 seat post, the Flyby has a 34mm post and is not part of the alert. Haven't seen anything about the handle bar mast on the Dahon site. However, on REI's site, folding bikes are no longer shown, so this may be an issue that REI has found.
there is a recall on some speed models, IIRC...
just got this email from REI
Thank you for the email regarding your Novara Buzz FlyBy.
Dahon has recently notified us that the handle post used on some of the 2009 Dahon bikes and the 2009 Buzz FlyBy may not have been manufactured to specification. This potential manufacturing defect could allow the handle post to fail at the hinge, posing a safety hazard to the rider. Only bikes produced during a specific time period are affected, and Dahon is currently trying to establish what that time period is.
Until the issue is resolved, it is not advisable to ride your FlyBy. As soon as Dahon provides us with more information we will pass that information along to you directly (assuming that you are a member and that we have a record of your purchase) and post information on REI.com at the following link. We are expecting more details from Dahon in the very near future.

In addition, Dahon is working with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and may announce a recall notice soon. If that is the case, and your bike is affected, you will receive an official notification from the CPSC regarding the steps you will need to take to make the bike safe to ride again. It is my understanding that a properly manufactured handle post will be available shortly for owners of bikes affected by the recall.
If we can be of further assistance, please don?t hesitate to contact us.
I'm bummed. I was told that my bike is one of the models on the list. So much for going multi mode next week for bike week and bike to work day.
