Hi. I recently purchased what I think is a Burley Rumba, circa 2000. It has an oval shaped bottom tube (whatever it's called.... the tube that connects the captain and stoker BBs).

I was on a ride this weekend, and met a fellow with a Trek T200 (I think that was the model), and the frames were identical, including the oval bottom tube....

Did I buy a rebadged Trek? I don't care too much since we're having a lot of fun on the bike (and that, after all, was the point in getting it (tool not a jewel, etc. etc...)), but I am curious.

Any tell-tale signs to determine the provenance of my Rumba200?

David

Yes, for awhile there, Trek was making frames for Burley. I don't know which years exactly.

Trek built a few aluminum frames -- identical to the Trek T1000/T2000 -- for Burley in 2002 and perhaps 2003. I do not believe that Burley ever used the "Rumba" name for an aluminum tandem. So your frame is almost certainly a bona-fide Burley, built in Eugene OR.

Bear in mind, similar item, similar function. My 1976 French tandem has an oval boom tube as well, I don't think that is all that uncommon.

Our Burly aluminum Tamburello frame was manufactured by Trek, per Mel at Tandems East.
