Ride them.
I ride a specialized allez triple...test drove the trek...both have the lower end sora componets...the specialized fit me better....I love my bike and have about 500 miles on it....ride them and see how they feel and don't just pedal around the parking lot. Go for a couple of miles do a lot of shifting, turning, hills. don't just look at the best deal.

Will a bike shop let me ride them for that long?
Can't comment on the comparison, but I have around 5000 miles on my Cannondale and find it to be very comfortable and responsive.

Fit! Fit! Fit! All I know(road bike that is) is my Trek 1000. It works for me! It's my first road bike, If I had known this love affair would last forever, then maybe a higher end bike would have been a better choice. But who knows, only time will tell. With a 3in. stem adapter, my fit is fine. The miles just get better, and faster. And this is a magical bike, it responds so well. I just had to name it, her name is MARIAH,.....YOU KNOW THEY CALL THE WIND MARIAH!
