Have had this for a year or so, in the barn, waiting to clean it up and remove the primer paint someone put on it at some point. After starting I thought that it looked kind of Mad Max so left a lot of the primer on. Put the racks on, bags on the racks, cleaned all the bearings(but not the Front Freewheel, that just got the old oil soak:o)and then never rode it cause man, its not cool. Ironicaly I live in a town that I never have to lock up my nice bikes, but this one gets locked up. mostly because I've been using it to deliver eggs:thumb: The bike was free, the racks, tires tubes and such were all takeoffs, the rear pannier bags were .50 cents at a flea market, and the subway bag/cooler was free. The cooler is neat, it will hold two water bottles, a slushy and a anti dog hot sauce mixture.

finaly took it out a few weeks ago, and have not ridden anything else since. This thing rides like an old plymouth. kind of shifts like one as well, rock solid, but with a certain slow inevitability. Even grinding up a steep hill it will downshift. I live in a really hilly area, 5 miles from town on flinty dirt and chipseal. so far so good. Only one hill defeats me and gets the push, but only with a load. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3662/3480696274_e9dd848e32.jpg?v=0http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3563/3479889425_9652b0e056.jpg?v=0

Anyway, I really love this bike, even though no one I ride with wants to be seen near it. They all thought my touring bikes were bad enough, but this is over the top!

Well, yeah, if you are into the later films...:innocent:

I am a purist. Its only the original for me. I was actualy thinking about putting a dura ace drive train on a treck police bike I have and riding around yelling that I am the night rider. But only if I could get Lulu Pinkus to sit on the handlebars and then die in a horrible endo/explosion.

I actualy drove this in graduate school.

I caught air every day on the railroad tracks and it had a switch to shut off all the lights but the front, to facilitate the gettaway. Can't believe I lived through owning that thing. Or through wrecking the hell out of it:(

Love the truck. Someday my Tacoma will get the same treatment.

Dude, you just happen to own a very, very good bike! What you have there is a Schwinn World
Tourist that was built by Giant bike of Tiawan ( a start up company at the time. The early
Giant stuff is REALLY well made!) under contract to Schwinn.

This bike has the ahead of it's time Shimano Front Freewheel system that let you shift without
pedaling. A real advantage for city use. The fully lugged frame (people pay big bucks for a lugged
frame today) makes for a rugged frame with a butter smooth ride.
