Hello everyone,
I am writing to ask others to share their favorite stretches and exercises for dealing with neck and shoulder pain. I don't generally suffer such pains after every ride, but as I get older, I feel that I am cycling more, and my body simply is not as tolerant as it was when I was younger. I doubt I would have any issues if I were only riding my single, but regularly captaining two different tandems and a quad, I know that these longer bikes ridden on longer tours certainly are more demanding. I know bike fit is important, and I have tried to make some adjustments there, such as adding bar ends to mountain bars to give more hand positions, etc. Right now what I think I need is not to try and change the bikes, but to change my routines to include more effective and regular stretching and exercises explicitly for the upper back, shoulders, and neck regions. Ideally I would like something I can do myself, as I don't want to get addicted to massage therapy any more than I want to get addicted to pain killers. Can some of you share your vast experience?
