Hello...I'm new to cycling. I'm trying to pick up a used bike for casual biking. I'm going to look at a 1971 Schwinn Breeze. The person selling it says it has no tubes, but is in otherwise good condition, and is asking for $180.

Is this a good price or too high for something like that?

Thanks so much!

That's too high for my area but maybe in other markets that is about right. I bought my wife one that was practically mint for under $100. Hers was a single speed coaster brake model though. Nice bikes.

That is really high for around here.

Where are you located?

Thanks for your responses. I'm in Los Angeles. It still seemed a little high, but perhaps a little more common in this area?

Too high where I am at, & there is a " strong market " for them. If seller says it needs tubes, then it will probably need tires as well, & other repairs. Very nice, serviced & ready to ride, around here it could bring as much as $150.

Just as a follow-up, I got the seller down to $150 on the phone, and went to check it out.

Though he described it as "mint" in the ad, it was far from it. He mentioned it needed new tubes, but the tires looked pretty bad, too. Plus, the handlebars were not original. They were just generic mountain bike-type of handlebars that didn't fit with the look at all.

At least it ended up being an easy decision!

Thanks for all of your responses!
