New York City Department of Transportation
The New York City Department of Transportation will give away free bike helmets while supplies last. You must be present to get a helmet and you must learn how to properly fit and wear it before you receive it. Adults over 18 receiving a helmet must sign a waiver, and a parent or legal guardian must be present to sign a waiver for children under age 18.

I was gonna go after work, but just realized I didn't bring a lock today...oh, well, my helmet is getting nasty but I have a new one already, waiting in the wings. Maybe next time

Ah, I see they have another one in Rockaway,Queens coming up and on 5/16 they have one way up on 136 St in Manhattan.

Woot! Got my neon green with black striped DOT helmet. Rode around with it all day with a ton of folding bike riders. Double woot. :D

BTW, they gave me a "M" (medium) helmet but I used the dial in the back to make it much smaller. I would have been better off with a "S" but I don't think they had any... Otherwise it would have been "Child-size" for me. :eek:
