Commuting - Crazy night going home

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Bah had a crazy experiance tonight. Right after leaving my girlfriend's house at around midnight. I start riding home, not even a block from her house i start getting yelled at by these kids in a blazer. I'm no stranger to get yelled at, i don't mind it, well i do but it doesnt get in the way of riding.
After the blazer follows me for a good mile yelling stuff at me they take it to the next level. Rocks! So they start to throw rocks at me, now that kinda is crossing the line. Not kinda crossing the line it is crossing the line. So the first side street i see, i take and try to take a longer route getting away from them. Thinking i lost them the blazer flys by me and flips a u-turn speeds straight at me head on, i jump on the sidewalk (Hurting my precious rims by jumping on the curb) they pass me, flip another turn. Come back and nail me with a bag filled with something. Ouch.
I call the cops right there, trying to look for a plate number... F*** no plate on their stupid blazer. I think they see me on the phone and take off. Or just got their pleasure from beating me down : (. I shut off my lights and try to follow i get a good half mile before the dispatch tells me to stop following them and wait for the police. Cops arrive take info and go looking. I ride home and i'm jacked up, leg hurts from beating i gave it from ride and being hit, but i'm pumped up on adrenaline so i can't sleep. Figure why not jump in my car and go look around.
I head down to where it happened looking around no luck. Hmmm maybe where they started to follow me and i see them, wtf a stroke of luck for me?! call the cops tell them where they are they come and ask if i want to press charges. Hell yes i do, Damn kids. And my justice for today is served i can now go to sleep!! Early ride for class in the morning haha.
Had to get it off my chest.

Glad it turned out ok and you lived to tell the tale. Hopefully their insurance company will drop them like a bag of dirt after you make a claim for the rims (are you sure there isn't hidden frame damage ;) )

WTF, these guys actually had the foresight to load up the car w/ rocks before chasing you down and throwing stuff at you? They're too stupid to be out in public and need to be sent to prison forever. Glad you're safe. Now prosecute w/ extreme prejudice.

What pricks! Glad you were able to track them down. Hope they get what they deserve from the justice system!

I'll be interested to hear how this comes out in court. Please do post.
I think I would have called the cops a lot earlier in the incident than you did, but I wasn't there, so no second-guessing.

After a night of thinking it over i realized i should have. I could tell from the start these kids were trouble. Oh well, i keep replaying it back thinking of what i should have done. But overall just need to forget about it.
After riding this morning i realized my back rim is slightly out of true from jumping onto the curb i'm guessing and my cranks are making noises now (maybe hit the crank while jumping up it) I don't know. I'm leaving now to try to find where they threw the bottle take pictures of where it happened and all that, then call the non emergency police # to see if they did cite them or if anything happened. I do want to tell them that there was damage done to my bike.

I got two things to say about that; Hoo and Ray!
Well done.
Jeff, still fat
Get a lawyer. Sue them for the damage to your rims plus all the sleep you lost plus your lawyers fees plus some extra for lunch money.
You could probably find a lawyer to do it for free (that is, they take a piece of the settlement).

You are very lucky that you got away unscathed. It could have been much worse if they were only a little bit more on the evil side.
Please prosecute. I know I would if the cops had found the guy that did this:

Way to go man. Hang 'em if you can!

That's what i keep thinking. It could have been much worse. I was on a sidestreet with no cars so i could have very well been hit and have been there for the night.

I know i got like an hour of sleep last night and it's damn finals week. I'm all jacked up haha. I want to call a lawyer but i'm not sure i don't really know who did it. I know it was a bunch of kids and i know for sure that was the vehicle but who threw the things and who was driving? couldn't tell ya i was trying to get away. That's the part i'm not sure about not knowing who the exact person who was driving. Do you think a case could be made? or should i wait it out and see if the police report says anything?
I live in pueblo so i'm not sure there are any cycling lawyers here. I might give a lawyer a call and see what he says if i can think of what to say.
Would be nice to get the local media involved.

Damn, what a turn of events! Luckily those idiots were stupid enough to return to the scene of the crime. Those little *******s need to pay for what they did.

T I want to call a lawyer but i'm not sure i don't really know who did it.
The only reason why you would get a lawyer would be if you were going to bring a civil suit, and there's no point in doing that unless/until you know what's going to happen with the criminal proceedings. As the victim in a criminal proceeding, you don't get a lawyer; the case is prosecuted by the state.

Okay cool that makes sense, i've never had a run in with courts so i'm completely lost when it comes to this stuff. My work offers a free consulation with some kinda prosecutor so i'll give that a call tommorow and see if they say anything.

There's probably no money in it for a civil suit, since nobody was injured enough to get medical treatment. So, your chances of retaining an attorney for a civil case are very low, unless you want to pay their fees yourself in advance.
Just follow up with the criminal case, if there is one.

Hang 'em high.
+1000000000 on getting that lawyer and following up on this as hard as the law allows. Don't back down now! Lots of lawyers out there specialize on lawsuits against jerks. Get one. Once that's done the lawyer takes care of almost everything.
And probably I'm watching too much CSI but I would go back and try to find some of the stuff that was thrown at me, for finger prints.

Haha i went back to try to find the bottle that was thrown or possibly the pieces, but got lost just trying to find where it was. I was in such a hurry last night i just remember i was near a hill. Don't know the streets. I know the general area it was in. I'll probably go back tomorrow and look again.
Glad to hear you didn't get injured. Also glad to hear you pressed charges.

Here's a fellow Google turned up if you decide to contact a lawyer. Might be worth a call just to get an opinion from him. Lil brown bat is on target though.

I called the police station a couple weeks ago and they said that the offenders just got ticketed for something about driving. They also got a bunch of tickets for the vehicle they were driving. no insurance, no driver's license, also had weapons in the car (Which makes me think i did the right thing but not whipping out my chain and having a hit at the car).
Karma sucks, Every time I drive by there house that car is gone. Hopefully it got hauled away or something.

Most likely in the impound yard. The longer it's gone, the more it's going to cost them.

Glad to hear they lost their wheels. No assault/battery charges? May want to avoid the neighborhood on the bicycle(duh!).
