Mountain - Plains - Denver Group Ride 09'

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hopefully we are done with the snow filled weekends. So I say it time we get a group ride in!
So, what weekend works best forever one? Also be thinking of a good route we could be taking. Let's hear your thoughts.

I am interested, but wondering if you mean to ride in Denver, or the surrounding hills? As the weather gets better, I stick to the foothills and mountains. My weekend riding schedule is pretty aggressive to make up for a lot of missed riding and overeating this last month, so I try to ride 5 hours each day with a good amount of climbing.

I am game. The more climbing the merrier. However, if this is a social thing I will understand if you keep that minimal.
I believe I have the buena vista century the 16th of May and the Club Hypoxia downhill Century the 30th of may. That and this weekend is a no go being that I will have just returned from driving to vegas and back.

I'm interested and want climbing & also have scheduling constraints. Can't do May 14-25.

I'm game! No weekend is really good for me (ha, i'm a busy bee!) but whichever you pick I'll do my best to make it happen! Sooner is better than later, if I end up moving back to the frigid, flat midwest.
I will also HTFU if its hilly, I promise.
anyone regularly ride from DTC on workdays? I need to squeeze a few more rides into my training regime, and its always better if I have to be accountable. lol.

artifice, why would you do such a thing?
Golden might be a good choice since Lookout is a moderate climb with many variations to make it longer. That way, we could break into shorter and longer ride groups, if there is demand for each. There is always the beer garden at Golden City Brewery for post-ride socializing too.

Valygrl just pointed me to this post...looks intriguing! We talking road or mountain? Anytime after the Colfax Half works for me.

Lol. Because moving is fun?
I was thinking a weekend and we would go bases on the talent at the time. Start throwing out dates that you are available and we'll see what seems the most popular. Maybe we'll throw up a poll err something.
Ready? GO! :D

Between 5/18-6/30 is ideal for me. Can do either mountain or road...more of a mountain fan, but have less of a chance getting dropped on road. Or if you really want a laugh at my expense, BMX/DJ works for me too. So yeah...really whatever is fine.

After 5/25 and not 5/31 for me.

Wednesdays at lunch. I'm back in the country after Mother's Day....

Wednesdays at lunch. I'm back in the country after Mother's Day....how long of a lunch do you take? In an hour, I feel like I could barely get a ride in, and cleaned up to be back @ the cube.
However, I wouldn't be opposed to catching a ride on occasion!

so I'm back in town after Mother's Day, but my weekends are booked solid until June 28th (MS150 ride, and I have no idea how I'm going to train on the weekends). After June I'm wide open. Well until August, when I'm on baby-watch....

I book a two hour meeting every Wednesday, and it's mostly respected, such that I can get a lap around the Res and showered in a couple hours. You game?

I'm game! Don't know that I'll have that luxury every week, but I'll try to join in on a couple!
Would love to get in some group rides, my schedule is for the most part open. Lookout mountain with beer gardens at the end wins my vote. I live in the Capital Hill area so if anybody is in that area and wants to ride, let me know.

+1 I'd be game for that as well. I've got kid duty every other weekend but otherwise my schedule is fairly open.

Well, I will pretty much be riding either Golden or Deer Creek every weekend in May, as long as the weather isn't horrible. The forecast for this weekend is questionable.
I am traveling on Sunday the 10th and the next Saturday may require sleeping in after 4 cities in one week, but otherwise looks good for May.
Ok, sounds like we'll be riding Lookout. :D Next question: Starting point? Are we starting and finishing in Golden? Not much time to get the climbing legs going. IMO.
Next is pinning down a date. Seems like we're all over the board. Not sure of the best way to handle this one. Any suggestions?

A group of Colorado roadies on Road Bike Review formed a similar group ride last month ... but the only way it actually came together was by the proposing party (that's you, Pwnt) picking a date/time/route and posting it ....
If we're doing lookout, I'd suggest starting in Morrison...

Throw a date out there and see what we get.
I usually meet people in the lot by the park right below the gates. There are various loops. Here is a link I wrote describing a favorite of mine (http://herodot.us/2008/11/16/lookout-mountain-cabrini-shrine-loop-ride/).
Another nice one is going out Mt. Vernon Road to Genessee Mt. It is a little easier. I haven't had time to update my site, but I plan to write that one up as well.
The nice thing about these rides is that there are places to hang out and look at the scenery if you want to let the group get back together..
Keep in mind that Golden City Brewery closes at 6:00 PM (always with a song or two by Josh), for those who want beer.

This looks like a nice route from the profile, thanks for sharing. I have been doing the Monday ride with Jenn from Meetup.com. The name of the group just changed to Front Range Cycling or something like that, about 30-40 people showed up a couple of weeks ago. They meet at Parfet park at about 6pm. Very low key, easy going group.
Just pick a day of the week and a spot, and whoever shows up, shows up. That is how the one above started. The problem with going to a bar is some people have a problem with eating, drinking in a public place clad in spandex. This is why I like bringing my own beer for after the ride. Anyways, my wife and I are game if this happens, always looking for new people to ride with.
Ahhh, don't make me pick. I want everyone to show up! :(

That's OK -- we can always do another one as well.
My back is all discombobulated (once again), but I'm hoping to be road worthy again by late May.

I have the Buena Vista century the 16th. That should slow me down enough the 17th.
I am available every other weekend due to the divorce. So if not the 17th then the weekend after the next one... the 30th.

I can do the 17th. Wedding on the 30th so no go.

I'm the opposite. I'm good everyother weekend starting this weekend. So 9th/10th and 23rd/24th.... etc. are good.
Why not just go ride one day with that Meetup.Com bunch? Heck, I may just join up so I can go ride a quick 50 tomorrow morning. Don't feel like climbing hills with the RMCC tomorrow, and Mothers Day is Sunday, so that day is out.

What do you have against climbing:D
What do you have against climbing:D
Not a thing. :) Just, was a 100 miler last Sunday, so I figured I would go for a wee bit of an easier time of it this weekend.
After reading my previous post, I realize it made little sense. I meant that Bike Forum folks could meet a few at a time through that group. Then, as time went on, the big ol group ride could be set.
