Texas - Guess Barker Resevoir is going to be flooded for a while

I usually ride on the path that goes from Beltway 8 out to Fry road. I know in heavy rains it floods big time out there, it took quite a while after the hurricane to clear out. I wonder how long it will be before we can ride through there again.

If anyone goes out that way, take a pic and post it up here!

Odd the trail is at 86.5 ft and the observation is lower...

Looks like you were seeing gauge blank out. It is showing a little over 4 feet of water over the trail right now. It will likely take several weeks to dry out if we don't get alot more rain.

The pavement is dry and a bit sandy, the dirt is still wet from what has been reported on different forums. I havent ridden my bike since the house being flooded

Sorry to hear about your house, I help some others with cleaning up after the flood caused them some serious problems at their house. I am surprised it has cleared up this quickly, guess it is time to head back out there and quit being lazy blaming the water as a reason to not get on my bike.

Are you sure it was clear through the reservoir? The last gauge reading I saw was still nearly 4 feet above what I thought was the lowest trail height?

Some of the regulars around the area may have started some clean up work. I dont believe the dirt is rideable yet. Though, Im speculating. Rather not want to see deep ruts when it dries up. Also, there is talk of a ride for 'ride of silence' on may 20th from THP to memorial at 7pm.

Again, just read on one of the local forums for THP/GBP/Anthills, that the paved is dry but has some dirt on it still. The dirt is still moist and I wouldnt be surprised if the trail hasnt been cleared of all of the debris. Also, the water behind the dam is still high.

Ok, I think you are talking about the Terry Hershey Park trails along the bayou, not the George Bush Park trails through Barker Reservoir. It makes sense that the trails along the bayou are clear and dry, but the trail behind the dam is probably still under a couple of feet of water.

Actually the trails along the bayou are eroded and debris from the flood waters. The last report I read had water just to the top of the trees behind the damn off of hwy 6. There will be some work needed on the trails along the bayou(THP)

I was able to only ride from Fry Road to the big wooden bridge in the park tonight. After that it was under water. Doing the ride that could be done it felt like riding through a swamp though. Bear creek is still under several feet of water as well as I get down that road every weekend visiting relatives.

It is definitely going to be awhile before the trails, asphalt or dirt will be rideable. Guess I have to stick with riding the roads around Cinco Ranch instead of from the house to THP and back.

Unfortunately no. It is the long wooden bridge between the Soccer Fields and the park area behind the R/C Airplane field. It is probably about 3 miles from Fry Rd if you ride the trail all the way out that way.

ah, ok, I thought you were referring to the bridge at the damn and if that was the case, then it would have been out of its banks.

I went riding yesterday. I rode in from Eldridge on the path, out past 6, then where it goes into the path just past the fence you could only go about 100-200 yards before it was underwater.

Thanks for letting us know about the other side coming from fry road. I guess I will go ride some road stuff instead of taking the paths.

I have heard memorial park MTB trails are clear, I am going to try to head out there today.

It is starting to feel like it will be forever before we can ride the whole trail through GBP! Great if you are a snake hunter but lousy for cycling! Even when the water is gone, it is going to take a huge effort to get all of the much and debris off the trail from Barker back toward the equestrian area parking lot! YUCK!
