Anyone have any recommendations for a good book with training programs using heart rate monitors. I prefer a book that focuses on road bike training vs. tri or multi sport programs.

Do you want a book no training your body, by the use of a heart rate monitor? I use my heart rate monitor to see if I am pushing myself as hard as it feels some days. Sometimes I feel exhausted, but when I look at heart rate, I should still have plenty of energy.

It will probably say something like this. Determine your Max HR. After doing a ride to warm up, ride a mile or two as fast as you can pushing yourself to the max the whole time. Do a cool down ride. Look at your HR monitor and see the highest number for your HR, this is your HR max.

For fat loss. Do rides of a minumum of 45 minutes and ride at about 70% of MHR. If you can get one ride in of 90 minutes per week it will help you burn fat quickly. You will build endurance during this time. Your speed will naturally increase with the weightloss and fitness. If you want to build additional speed later then you can change your program. But this should get you started.
