I'm considering buying an old Trek 5200 with a Shimano 600! That's pre-Ultegra stuff! I'm guessing from the mid 80's. It's an all carbon bike.
A. So is it the same geometry as the ones from this century?
B. It has a double and I need a triple. About how much does that run to upgrade?
C. I"m not a mechanic...Am I crazy to buy such a fixer-upper?

I don't believe that the 5200 frame was available when 600 was around. I think someone swapped out the gruppo, or built a bike up with on-hand components and a newer frame. The upgrade would require a new crankset, bottom bracket, shifters, both derailleurs and a new chain. At that point, you would be better off buying a different bike, either another used one, or maybe even something new.
