"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Dilworth Crit

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I might be there for the 3/4 race if another teammate goes. Does that mean I'll be racing against you? :twitchy:

Maybe. I just saw the schedule.
There's a 3/4 race and a 2/3 race and a masters race. Maybe I can get 3 races in.

Heard you were in the P123 at Sanford- didn't recognize you with the new bike and all :) That was my first race as a 3. Tough initiation...

But it's good that you toed the line considering you could have just done the 3/4 race instead.
This is me.

Got word that our Manager will let me do as many races as I "can handle."
Hmmm?
Master 35+ first. With Ryan J., John P., and Charlie B. possibly racing, as well as 5 more of their mates controlling the field, I stand very little chance. If I can get into a break with Ryan, then I may be able to hold on. Last year him and John rolled away and lapped the field. Crossed the line together.
Cat3/4 race 10 minutes later. If I don't expend too much energy in the Masters' race, I may be able to get in a break with a few friends that I know can stay away easily. (It's always good to have friends on other teams. Never burn bridges and always be friendly on and off the track. Bike racing is about teamwork. Teamwork from different teams. Non racers still scratch their heads about that. "You mean, you were working with rivals?")
Cat2/3 race 2 hours later. Last year two strong Cat2s attacked and rolled away easily and early on. They worked perfectly together staying away. Not one guy challenged during the whole race. It was like they knew it was too late. Halfway through the race, the two in the break looked so smooth and relaxed it was like a ride around the park. And they were half a lap ahead. If I have the gumption to attempt this race I don't expect to have enough left in the tank to do too much. Hopefully I will hang on and have fun.

I'll work with you in the 3/4 if you're still feeling up to it. It'll be my first race of the day, so I should have some legs.

I wouldn't think of it. Let's work together. Try to make breaks happen and stuff.

Unfortunately I have an exam literally during the race so can't make it. Oh yeah, that and the fact that I haven't raced since March (or raced successfully since February.) Too bad since it's a great race. Don't worry, I am only a few weeks away training-wise and you will see me out on the circuit soon.

She hit the pavement hard. Hyperventilated, maybe broke her wrist. Not good. She was in a two woman break to win when it happened.

Not sure what happened really. I took place, ironically, on an easier turn. The nasty turn, before the climb, was right after where she took a spill.
Her twitter feed says she had problems breathing from the humidity and pollen.

Apparently, Liz only suffered from the pollen and humidity. The other stuff was just rumors. No fall, I think. Info is sketchy but her twitter feed had some info.
I, on the other hand, suffered from bad racing and a poor mental capacity yesterday. But was told that there will be some great pix of me soon.

You looked good in our race. I couldn't believe that was your second race in a row! I lasted all of 5 laps in my second race (2/3)... and was by no means the first rider off the back. Nothing left in the legs after our race.

Jamie Knight. Florida Cat3 and mountain biker. He's planning on catting up at the end of the season.
Edited to add: he's on a 45x12 as his biggest gear.
This kid I've seen before.
Yup, he won Sandy Springs yesterday (I slid out chasing him early in the race)--he put 30 seconds on the field in 8 laps, Roswell he came second in, and I think he won the Spartanberg 3/4 crit. He is a junior (spun out in the crit at Roswell in the final sprint) and he is going to wait until he can remove his junior gearing before cat'ing up.

Strong dude. I was the guy that rode off with him in the beginning. I have ridden away with him a few times and he is a strong racer.

I did the 3/4 race, totally impromptu (I was in charlotte for a wedding and brought my bike). The race was literally two blocks from my in-laws place where we were staying so I decided to sign up. Killer mistake - I decided to do a recon lap to get a sense of turn 4, which meant I started at the back. I got killed by the accordion on the first lap (almost came to a dead stop), managed to dragged myself back but not far enough and got gapped again on lap 2 for good. Rode around in a group of three for 20 minutes before the break lapped us and we got pulled. Waaaaaay too much effort to DNF. But, I got my first race jitters worked out and now motivated to redeem myself.
