Hey - I'm new here and wanted some expert advice on upgrades to my bike. Will be 100% street ridden.

First on the list to swap out:

Brakes
Stem
Bars
Cranks/Pedals

you should just keep that bike how it is and cruise around on it, upgrade to something more modern.

Agreed. The 1" threaded headtube probably isn't a great idea for street.

My main issue is the brakes just don't bite well... maybe I'll change the cables/pads and get it tuned.

At the least I will pick up some cables and pads. If that is not enough, I could pickup some Bulldogs and new levers.
I wonder if my Gyro is affecting my rear braking??

I just don't understand bike brakes! Why does my brakes never want to center after a pull??

Change the cables and the pads, but really calipers just don't provide much stopping power.

The bike looks nice for it's age.
I you just want to ride that bike for now with some upgrades.
Dump the Gyro and front brakes
Replace the rear brakes with new cable and lever.
Loose the seat and seat post for a pivotal
It should be straight then.

Can't swap the post out, its too old, they used a narrower seat tube. Tune it up and use it for cruising, its a nice collectors item. But if you want to ride street its time to upgrade to something more morder that will handle the abuse.
