I was thinking about riding either Anaheim or PCH to get to PV Drive North. Is it worth it? Or should I stick to driving the car over the bridge with bike in hatchback.

I would only do it on an early weekend day. Which would you take?

I ride from LB to the PV/Torrance area at least a few times a month. I usually go across Wardlow rather than Willow or Anaheim, it's a bit more open. I either stay on Wardlow as it turns into 223rd or go down Avalon, Wilmington, Main or a parallel street to either Sepulveda or Lomita. PCH in that area is kinda tight and fast for my taste. The most uncomfortable spot is crossing the 110 and PCH is really bad compared to Lomita or Sepulveda. That's my 2 cents.

A few year ago a friend of mine rode from LB to LAX going down Willow. He did it at night. Going to work. I don't think I would do either PCH or Anahiem. Maybe Willow or like AdamD stated Wardlow.

Good luck with your choice.

Anaheim has some pot holes, and a lot of truck traffic. But it's the only way I've been (only ridden to PV once).

Hello allroy71,

I think that I've ridden almost every conceivable route from LB to PV.

The one I prefer is the Wardlow route described by AdamD up until 223rd crosses Wilmington. I take Wilmington south to Sepulveda or Lomita and then I take Western to PV Drive N.

In order (after Wardlow), I prefer:

Willow -> Sepulveda -> Western
Anaheim -> PV Drive N

I rode PCH to PV once and swore I'd never do it again and I haven't.

Going to agree with Cleave
Being you didn't like Hawthorne you will not like PCH or Anaheim St.
Willow -> Sepulveda -> Western
Anaheim -> PV Drive N
Would be best for you.
Once I get to Anaheim I sometimes go down Gaffey then climb up Capital to Western its a nice hill also.

Thanks for the input everyone.
I think for now I am going to stick to driving over the Vincent Thomas Bridge. Parking in San Pedro and then ride peninsula.
I definitely want to try the Wardlow and Willow routes when I get my endurance up. For now I want to conserve my energy for the climbs and great views of the coast. (Don't want to waste my legs on ugly city streets)

BTW, I have ridden Anaheim to Alameda to Harry Bridges to Harbor once. It wasn't the smoothest ride. Trucks come by quick,shoulder decent. Did like the fact that I wasn't going through any 'hoods.
