Does anyone know about any weekday group rides around 5PMish on Portola, Culver and Orchard Hill. Last time when I saw that group, they were doing laps on Portola and Orchard Hills. Does anyone know about this ride?

Yea, I think that they do that on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Not both days. They meet at the Pavillion's shopping center. From what I hear, it's a fast paced ride that goes till 7pm I believe.
It's not an official ride but just who ever shows up.

The Orchard Hills ride goes from about 5:30pm to 7pm on Tuesdays. There are typically anywhere from 10-20 people out there, and it breaks up into several groups (fast, faster, and too fast for me!).
Please use caution when cornering back onto Portola (don't overshoot the bike lane into traffic).

Thanks.
-OCshark, Do you go to that ride?
Where's the pavillions shopping center? I was hoping to find a good afternoon ride around Irvine too. Just moved out here a few weeks ago from La Verne

On and off, depending on where my teammates are training.

If you're referring to the Orchard Hills ride, we park in the CVS parking lot, corner of Culver and Portola in Irvine.

The OC Rebels have Tues. and Thur. rides from Windrow Park (off East Yale Loop between Barranca and Alton) starting at 6:00 PM. There is a fast group and a slow group, the fast group goes longer.
Different routes each time, route sheets available at the start. Some go to Portola, some to Mission Viejo, some to PCH . . . different routes, different directions.

Yes, its a team (forgot name) that practice hard at Skypark every Tuesday after 5. I did it this past tuesday as an interval training so I can hold on longer. Im curious if there are other practice days around so I can do more of this.

That's our team (EDGE Masters Cycling Team). Last Tuesday they took it easy (just 25-30 MPH for 60 minutes). Our tandem pulled the group at 40 MPH the week before on the final lap. This is very tight riding, so if you come out, please bring excellent bike handling skills with you. The primary purpose right now is to set a high pace for 45 minutes; our TT guys are using this for their A-event training. If you're not in racing shape, I don't recommend this.
Also, know that quite often we have to dodge idiot drivers who pull right out of the business lots into our path. Lots of joggers run there too.

OCShark, if you were here this past Tuesday I was the guy on all red long sleeve jersey just trying to hang at the back in intervals. Ive been in group rides 2-3x a week (como, cofee, dieritch, bci) for a year now and I would like to get into CBRs at LB (Cat4 or 5) in few weeks
So if anyone else knows of other days at Sky Park, let me know so I dont always get in a way of EDGE training. if not ill just solo and stay in the heart rate zone.
danke

Yeah I remember seeing you there; you seemed to be riding fine. You'll get stronger if you keep coming out. Main thing is to be steady since we ride in a pace line for most of the workout. As long as you're not a twitchy rider, I don't think anyone will complain.
Be sure to introduce yourself to the guys; everyone is really friendly. We do talk a lot of trash after the ride, but it's all in good fun.

I don't think so. Our team ride goes through Laguna canyon, up PCH to Jamboree, then University to Harvard and up the river trail to Portola. We then work our way to Irvine Blvd and down Bake back to the EDGE shop.
Sometimes a few guys will go up Jamboree to Santiago canyon, but that's rare during racing season.
