I work at home most days, always Thursdays. I plan to go out in morning stop by all the SF festivities, then back home (to work).

Great post! As you all know, MyLilPony is a dedicated bike commuter and was Contra Costa's Bike Commuter of the Year! We support bike to work day every day.
My college is TRYING to promote it. Last year I had my design students all do posters. I'm on sabbatical this semester, but here's last semesters effort.

If I end up working from home that day, I'll take the unicycle down the hall from the bedroom to the office, does that count? :p

I missed the goodies being handed out last year. I'll make sure to make up for it this year. :D

The problem I have is my commute is at 5:30, and be in the office at 6 am. That's before some of the energizer stations are set up. No goodies for me, but I'll be out there.
I'll be trying my first bike-(BART)-bike to work tomorrow. I picked up my bike from a quick tuneup from the Pedaler in El Sobrante this afternoon and already got a free bike to work goody bag.
Looking forward to trying it out. I'll be heading out of the office extra early to make sure I can get back across the bay before the no bike curfew kicks in though. How unfortunate.
What do they have at the energizer stations? Will only pass one, actually it's at my destination.

Biking to work is almost never an option as a musician, but tomorrow I'm taking the ferry from SF to Vallejo to meet a colleague and we're going to ride to Santa Rosa for a rehearsal. I have to leave the house at 11:30 AM to get to a 7:30 PM rehearsal.:roflmao2: But I'm looking forward to riding roads I've never been on before.
I'm going to be so freaking grumpy tomorrow missing out on B2W day. :notamused:
Maybe I should have warned my co-workers. Nah.

I drove last year and I felt like crap all day. I think it'll be nice to get more cyclists on the road to work.

I drove last year as well. Riding in tomorrow, if nothing else for the expected paceline on Foothill.
Also, if I take my 11-mile route I will pass 6 of the stations. 6!!

I've ridden my bike a grand total of two days in May and neither of those were commutes :( Going to try and commute in tomorrow though.

Cliff bars, gatorade, environmentally friendly shopping bag, and probably some water. Not sure if they give out t-shirts or not.

So I'll settle for biking to work another time.

FOPA stands for "Featured Optional Pedal Assist." Ruthness needs that for her half bike as Marco typically provides 75% of the power. :p
Made it to and from BART without my car - left in the dark (woefully inadequate lights) - got off at Daly city expecting to be greeted by the sun. Wrong - fog, yuk. Climbed up and over Guadalupe Canyon to head for the Brisbane lagoon and was given a boost by a stealthy energizer station giving me the cow-bell treatment. After the energizer station got rolling with ~20cyclists, not bad for ~7:15.
Based on this, I don't think I'll make a habit of riding with a backpack and laptop on a regular basis though, the computer is staying in the office tonight.

I took mine up Page Mill last month on the folder but my shoulders do get a bit sore (I have a pretty big laptop too).
For me it was a combination of the backpack flapping around if I stand up and having a bad interaction with my HRM strap.
The main challenge today is to make sure I don't get get out with the BART transbay bike curfew.

Had a nice ride in and DID see more cyclists. Antioch actually had a station where I scored a nice bag, a patch kit, and some sun screen.
My college will be doing stuff today as well!

Yeah, I have lost my storage at work so I have to carry clothes with me now. The backpack subtracts like 2mph on the flats, and waddles back and forth when I stand, regardless of how tight the waist strap is.

I definitely noticed more cyclists than usual on Foothill but they were all going the opposite direction as me (except for the one guy I passed near Page Mill). There was an energizer stop at Foothill at Arastradero that looked like they had muffins. I was trying to make the green light though and didn't stop but I made it through the light on the yellow!

Yeah, I passed 4 stops but was (as always) running late. 19mph average though!

We have a lunch time bike ride here at the office, so at least I can get a free lunch out of that ride. Perfect route to ride my fixie on.

How do you like fixed so far? My commute is also really flat, like 50 ft over 7 miles the short route. The Trek "Urban" with the belt drive (- deep v rims) looks interesting to me. No lube/drive train grease would make it fun to get around campus on.

I like it. Just the fact that you have to keep moving at all times gives me a little more workout. Still getting used to approaching a stop light/stop sign though.

at least you're stopping. I used to ride with a bunch of guys that never stops for anything. I'd have to catch up after every stop sign, red light. This one time I actually got rear ended by another bike because he wanted to blow through a red light, and I stopped.
You're at Cisco right Ron? where's your lunch time ride? I didn't bring my bike today but maybe I can join you sometime.
yeah, a few more cyclist today, one almost took me out. We were going about 18mph in opposite directions on the 237 MUP between 1st and Great America. There was maybe 5 in line with this one guy sticking out in my side of the yellow line yapping with his buddy. I hugged the fence, yelled out, finally he swerves and almost takes out his buddy on the right! Was worst then the tourist on the GGB, at least the tourist are only going 5 mph.

Nope. Juniper. It actually starts from our parking lot. :D

Still getting used to approaching a stop light/stop sign though.I would mention trackstands, but since I couldn't do one to save my life, I'll refrain. :P You'll at least get really good at riding really slowly while waiting for a light to turn or for an intersection to clear.
I miss my daily fixed commute. Doing so every day was only 40 miles a week, but it was a forced 40 miles a week, so it was handy.

I'm kinda bummed at the offerings in the energizer stations this year. Not that I'm not grateful, but I couldn't help but notice that there was more stuff in the previous year; to wit: I got a coupon for a free tune-up (Bike Doctor) from the Yahoo energizer station (which is no more this year). I wonder if the economy had something to do with it? I still did snatch me the musset bag, one apple, one banana, and one Share the Road sticker (for my Hummer! <--j/k).
There were indeed more commuters on Middlefield, Moffet Park Drive, and through Sunnyvale Baylands Park. I even helped a girl with her hand pump on Middlefield, too.
Oh Holger Way along 237 is closed, and I had to learn my detour on the run. Not good.

I'd mention that you ended up mentioning trackstands anyway but that would be getting off topic so I'll refrain :D
I noticed more bikes then the usual commuters. Worked at one energizer station until 8am at the high school and hit a total of 4 stations including the REI pancakes in Santa Rosa. I heard the county admin building station had "head size" burritos w/ bacon.
For any Santa Rosa folks the Trek store is having a band (the spindles) and beer from 5:30 - 8:30. They are at 7th and Mendocino.
It was hard to pedal the rest of the way to work.

Got out for the "official" bike to work day this morning. Actually, I wasn't technically biking to work, since I work from home most of the time (including today), but did take the opportunity for a nice weekday ride. Stopped at three energizer stations during my 26 mile loop, and not only remembered to take my camera, actually took a few pics while I was out and about. Enjoy!

are there any events/stations open in the afternoon, specifically on the Peninsula?
I give my thanks to the Bike Gods that most of my 3.5 mile commute is on the Stevens Creek and Hetch Hetchy Trails where I don't have to deal with motorized vehicles. So say we all!
I really appreciate it when I'm often going faster than the mess on 85 when I'm riding the overpass over 237 on my way home.

Fast commute for BTWD. 19mph. Good by my standards.
Someone trying to drop me.
After struggling through Golden Oak and the Tres Hombres of Pain someone blurred by on Alpine so I gave chase to Foothill. The the real battle began. About 5 of us going all out the entire way. Every time I looked down at the cyclometer is was between 26-31mph. A tall rider pulled on the downhill from El Monte and I took the slight uphill pull from Magdalena. By Arboretum I was toast and let the final two still hammering move away while I slowed down and spun the rest of the way home. 37.7 miles, 16.1 av. Tailwind really helped.
