Touring - stand bike "on end" w/ pannier/rack?

Are there any panniers or rear racks that can be used to easily stand a bike "on end" (pointing up) for storage? Xtracycle was advertising this feature with their rear rack at one point, claiming that it takes up less space than even a regular bike. Obviously the Xtracycle is a different animal, but I figure if there's a way to do it with a regular bike then you can save even more space.

Sorry if this isn't touring related, but I figured you guys would know.

Put a hook on your wall and loop the front wheel into it, so the bike seems to be coasting up the wall.

A rack and panniers mounted that far back will provide some exciting handling characteristics.

I don't think that would go over too well at the office, which is why I was wondering about just standing it on the back.

Xtracycle seems to work alright. Obviously the wheelbase is longer, but I think that's mostly for heel clearance because the rack reaches as far forwards as it does backwards and considering the kinds of loads people put on them I can't imagine it having more than a minor influence with a normal load on a tourer.

Are there longer racks made for 700cs than 559s? That might provide enough overhang right there.

Just asking...:)
