I want to trek to Normal Heights from my perch to the north In Tierrasanta and my destination being exactly in the middle of either choice listed in the heading. Not having ridden either road, I'm curious as to those who have or do so on a regular basis. Fairmount seems too iffy in the sense of the speeds and the many on and off ramps to other streets. Texas is steep (and somewhat narrow), but then so are Bachman Pl, Torrey Pines and Pomorado lol
Thanks in advance for any insights, experiences.
My girlfriend lives in Normal Heights. While I have never ridden either, I have seen a lot of cyclists ride up Fairmont to Aldine (I think), which hits Adams in Kensington. I don't think I would want to ride up Texas.

TEXAS. While steep, Fairmount Ave has ramps that you have to cross, both directions, with high speed traffic. Texas at least has a bike lane, and you can easily go to side roads at the top. Your best bet is to take Murphy Canyon (with the bike lane and path) to Camino Del Rio N, then to Texas.

texas. agree with sd_mike but it's a brutal grind for a couple of minutes. fairmont to aldine is more
scenic but deals with the previously mentioned ramps/merges and depending the time of day you're riding-sdsu traffic. try fairmont to aldine on a saturday or sunday morning because it's worth riding. fairmont's got a good shoulder at least but aldine's got none so it's a good opportunity to work on your uphill sprint.

I appreciate the replies gents :thumb: This is what I had sort of figured but not having ridden them, who's to know? I had actually planned on riding today but a kidney stone preempted any form of enjoyment  I will remember this for future trips.

OUCH.
Actually if you click on my cycle commuting blog link, several of the blogs in the blog roll are San Diego based. You could ask there.
