Northern California - Anyone want to do a push-up challenge in May?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. After this weekend was lost to the heat (and my inability to HTFU, in reality), I tried to make up for it to little avail:
5/18: 80 push-ups (4x20), 28 pull-ups (10-7-5-6)
Cumulative: 440 push-ups, 141 pull-ups
Hmmm, I have 560 to go in the next 13 days, so that's about 45/day? I need some one-man cheering squad here.
This is so much easier than suffering on the climbs.

I'm only 86/37 after 44.93 on 66/27873.77 hjs/rm
I hope to reach 76 by the time I'm near 53-98 jh and 66/763 hMk-Gz
But otherwise I'm be happy at 67-122 osq or at least whle I'm still 22-989 jhd-tu

Don't you all be picking on the meathead-in-training now!
does anyone else here lift? I'm working on a full body workout program. I'll share what I have so far but it's modeled after Brat Pitt's training for Troy.
Anyone here have a program they like?

Like usual I'm a procrastinator. Only added about thirty between my last post and yesterday. But I did 150 through this morning and afternoon. Just tried to do another set and my arms let me know they are done.

When in doubt, do push-ups while you are waiting for dinner:
5/19: 80 push-ups (2x20 before dinner, 2x20 after dinner/drinks), 29 pull-ups (10-8-5-6)
Cumulative: 520 push-ups, 170 pull-ups

Just did 124 pushups of various types :D - P90X chest, shoulders and triceps workout
After slacking all weekend, I'm up to 206 pushups and ~cough~ 4 ~cough~ pullups. Still need to go buy a pull up bar.
Though I'm pushing to catch up on the pushups at least, 100 so far today. :D
Can I count each successful bouldering route climbed as one pull up? I'd be up to at least 30 then.

Jin, check out SF Crossfit (http://www.sanfranciscocrossfit.com/) or if you need to find an affiliate closer to you check out the affiliates on the left side of the page and click on "California": Crossfit Affiliates (http://www.crossfit.com/cf-affiliates/)
Total body workout in a muthaf'er!! The instructors at SF are really cool and there was never any pressure by anyone to go above your ability. They even modified my workout to my ability when I first started. It's all about form first with them. Once you get that down then you can really build it up! And there is drop-in if you just want to try it out once. I think it's about $20 drop-in and $150 unlimited per month.
My wife's new evening schedule and lack of baby sitters prevent me from going anymore so I do the stuff at my home (read: I got lazy too!).
Check 'em out!

Oh yeah... anyone wanna go halvesies on the pull up bar mentioned earlier: http://www.getirongym.com (http://www.getirongym.com/Default.asp?bhcp=1) It's buy one get one free. We can split the total cost! PM me! :)

Thanks, but I can't afford the membership right now. If I had that kind of cash laying around, I'd get my Planet Granite membership back. Plus, I've never thought of crossfit as a "bulking" program. It's hard as hell and a great full-body work out, but I'm looking to gain mass. I'll probably cut in a few months, but right now, I like to put on some serious mass.

When I was at university of AZ, I was in Navy ROTC.
I used to PT with Marines all the time. Even though, i am more fit now, I could do way more pull-ups and push-ups back then ;)

Great! Then each V1 can be a 1/4 of a pull up. :thumb:
We'll just say I'm up to 14 pullups. :D
Jin - that's cool. Although, the two founders (Adrian and the other dude) of that SF Crossfit are pretty bulky as well as some of the long term guys that were in the program. They were lifting houses compared to puny me!
But like you, the cost [and location] was a big factor. Loved the coaches there, but going from Daly City to the Presidio was tough. Pacifica was closer but I like the coaches in SF better.
So good luck on your search!

I think those pull up bars are on sale this week at Target for $25 plus you get a $5 gift card so the bar ends up being only $20 and there's no shipping.

Really? Lunch time trip to target!
Ended up doing an even 300 pushups yesterday! 100 in the morning, then just kept doing sets of 20/30 everytime I had a chance at the office. Progress is being made. :D

Pretty destroyed at Montebello yesterday; couldn't even run the dogs when I got home. In between the roller sessions, I eeked out lame-o 40 (2x20) push-ups.
Cumulative: 560 push-ups, 170 pull-ups
Woo hoo! Hit my 1000th push-up today. I didn't think I would be able to do it, but the key is just to stick with it. Unfortunately, I am only at 45 pull-ups so far.
Total as of 5/21:
1015 push-ups
45 pull-ups

I'll start cutting after a few months. I've been wanting to lift for awhile now, just never had the motivation. or a gym, 2 mins from my cube. It's been nice working at KT.

I'm at 735 with four days left. I'll finish with at least a 1000 but damn my procrastinating ways. Thanks for the little push to do this. Should we do 2000 next month?

Looks like we have a bunch of folks within striking distance! How about 1500 in June? That is 50 per day.

So I bought one of those chin up bars on sale from Target and tried to do pull ups unassisted. Hurt myself while on the 3rd one. Fat arse people who haven't done chin ups in a decade and a half shouldn't try to set the world on fire their first time out. Long story short; no push up or chin ups for the last 5 days has set me back. I'm at 848 push ups with 3 days to go.

Once you are healed up, you can easily assist yourself with a chair just behind you. Flex your knees and put your feet on the seat. Then push your feet down, extending your legs, as you pull up.
I am shamed..haven't done any weights/pushups all week. Gotta get back on that horse.

did another 100 pullups today :)
knowing everyone else is trying this makes you want to succeed more - this is a good motivator.

Yup, learned my lesson. I'll try that next. Thanks for the tip, Ms I.
Up to 923 push ups now and seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I'm up for 1500 next month. My wife was just commenting on how I struggled to do 35 push ups a day at the beginning of this challenge (May 4). Here I am just three weeks later and now I can do up to 75/day.

I don't know why pull-up's are so hard for me. That's going to be my personal challenge next month.

1003 push ups - just made the goal by the skin of my teeth! Thanks for getting me off my butt, Roja. I still owe you a ride in my old car.
Finished the pushup portion on Saturday! Got in my 1000 starting on May 15th. :D
Pullups will have to be next month! (Since I never actually managed to get a bar :roflmao2:)

Muscle recruitment is great. The plateau at the end of that period isn't.
It's 6/1. Someone start the June thread. 1500/400.

lol, I got confused thought the first wasn't for another day or so. Put off doing my last 65. Realized my mistake at midnight, last night. So I finished at 935, doh.
