i just ran a light directly in front of a copcar -- not on purpose but because my foot flew off the pedal mid-skid stop! i am now switching the cleats on my time atacs so they have more float. it should help but i just know i am gonna fall on my ass tomorrow when i forget there is more float now...

i looked at the cop with the 'oh ****' expression that i wouldve had anyway. i think he understood -- maybe not really but on some level -- that it was an accident. at least the intersection wasnt busy.
also i just confirmed this evening that yes falling on my ass was an accurate prediction. but i guess its still better than falling on my face in traffic.

You might need to replace your cleats. I've had this happen when my Time cleats are pretty worn.

how can you tell when the cleats are worn? i switched them left for right and now they seem a lot more secure. i wonder if that would work if the cleats were too worn.

You can look at them and see they are worn, but unless you have a new pair beside them or they are extremely worn, it can tough to tell other than by knowing they are not functioning like they should. If you had them originally set on the "easy" release and now set them on the tougher release, I could see how this would give you some extra miles out of them.

I mean, really, what sort of a fixie rider doesnt use dual leather strapped toeclips? Geez, I mean...really.......you're outta the club.
