Recreational & Family - Rear light reccomendation?

I need a rear light for my bike. I've looked at what seems like a gazillion on line and a lot of them are very similar. I want something good but I don't want to spend a fortune. Any recommendations?

Planet Bike sells replacement parts for most of their accessories. Excellent company.
I ordered some spare Superflash mounts so I could move my lights from bike to bike. They were in my house three days after I placed the order. I live about 900 mile away from their location. I believe that they are a Green Company and I'm proud to do business with them.

Yeah, just about all rear lights are created equal, but I also use the planet bike because that's what they sell at my LBS for cheap.

I haven't tried the Superflash yet. I was using a couple of the Cateyes last year.
I use two lights. Batteries die and with two I don't get left in the dark.
But the cateyes are a bit heavy. So I will prob get a superflash and run a cateye under it.

I will say that the cateye has a great sideways flash mode, and then when you run two of them, the effect is excellent and the batteries last halfway to forever.

You must have a really really light bike to be concerned with the weight of lights.
Do you do any bike racing??

Just got in a Blackburn Mars 2 and this thing is unbelievable. (Thanx to Joeybike for the info on it.)
See one of his vids for this thing in action. You won't be disappointed.

The rear light is more visible if it is at drivers eye level, so mount on the seat post or the back of the saddle. If there is a chance of it being blocked by a bag on the rack, put a second one on the back of the rack. LEDs are very directional so blinkies a backpack or the back of the helmet may only be visible to passing aircraft or squirrels that you ran over.

+1 Superflash. I have them on 4 bikes. They are very bright and the strobing affect gets attention really well.

PB Superflash

I just picked up two Cateye LD1100s. Wow. Ten LED bulbs, two rows of lights, four modes of flashing, both rows have independent switches, 100 hours on two AA batteries. These things are well built and throw some serious light.

This light is small, light weight and blindingly bright! People will see you from a distance and think a cop has someone pulled over.
