I'm thinking about making the switch to a more commuting friendly bike, and I think I have it narrowed down to two bikes. The Devinci Victoria, and the Rocky Mountain Metro 10V. I took them both out for a test today, and like them each for different reasons.
I plan to use it mostly on road, occasionally on grass, gravel, dirt, etc. Nothing super hardcore by any stretch of the word, but I am pretty rough with my current tank of a bike. IE: throwing it down when I feel tired or frustrated, letting it drop when it starts to slip after being propped up. I don't think I'll want to do that with my new bike because, well, it'll be new. But I'll want the bike to be tough enough to handle me doing that in a few years when I'm nolonger babying it.
Any suggestions?

Or, if you can suggest anything in that price range (~$600) it'll be appreciated.

Thanks!

i'm a tad worried about the Rocky Mountain's frame. It appears to have a large divit out of the top tube, near the headset. I'm sure this is by design, but I can't imagine why. It can't imagine that it's helping the strength of the frame. Hopefully it's just white paint blending in with the white background, and the fault of the photographer for not figuring out how to show it better. But it still looks like a chunk of missing frame.
I guess my vote is for the Devinci.

Thanks, orange. Yes, the "divot" you're seeing is a result of poor photography.

The Devinci has a touch better components;rear der is Deore vs Alivio on the Rocky Mtn. Personally,I'd go with the Devinci for the disc brakes. The 26" wheels are also going to allow you to run a wider range of readily available tires(ie,you can just walk into a shop and pick them up without special order or going on the 'net). You can run skinny 1.5" slicks for speed,or full 2" knobbies for winter snow/slush.

Considering that they have different size wheels, plus different forks/tires/frames,you really need to test ride both and decide which one you like the best.
