Hi there,

I'm a 15 year old triathlete who competes in sprint distance - 20km bike leg (4 x 5km laps). I am trying to choose a new racing bike for the upcoming season. This year I will begin draft legal races, whilst also competing in non-drafting as well.

I am looking for a bike that will perform well in both, with the priority the draft legal. These are highly competetive in Australia and as an ITU endorsed Junior I would have to compete against people up to age 19. I need a really competetive bike that will allow me to do well. I have been told the most important factors will be stiffness followed by aerodynamics. Is this true? The price point is around $4000 - $5000 AUD.

Here is a list of the possible choices I have found:

LOOK 555 (08), Felt AR4, Cannondale Six Carbon 3, Cervelo S1, EMC2 Equip Team, Fuji SST2.0 & Team RC, BMC SLT01 (08) & SLX01, Colnago CLX w/ Ultegra SL, and the Time Edge Pulse.

I am tending toward the BMC SLT01 (great price @ $4500 with Dura-Ace 7800), the AR4 or the LOOK 555. Which bike will suit my needs the most? I have heard the LOOK would be best for longer rides whilst I want a bike soley for these shorter races. Should I look at the Ridleys, Scotts and Treks as well? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I need to narrow this list down (obviously). Should I also take into account the weights or is this not so important. I race with flashpoint fp80s also.

Thanks

Considering you're 15, I would be inclined to say the Cervelo S1 is a damn fine, affordable choice. Probably the second most aero of the group, easily set up for non-draft legal races.

Are draft-legal races more common in Australia? I don't seem to see them where I'm at - Souteastern US.

if you will be in a sufficient amount of races that do not allow drafting then go with the most aero frame. i would assume most of the frames have internal cable routing judging by the cost.

and im with k-s2: are draft legal races common? I've never heard of a draft legal race around here.

and damn for a 15 year old you have a big budget. daddy must love you
