Folding Bikes - Montgomery Ward Folding Bike Question

I'll probably get teased unmercifully for asking this :) ...but does anyone have any experience with the Montgomery Ward full-sized folding bike? I'm too heavy (250lb) for a regular folding bike so I'm wondering if this is an option. There's a close up of the bolts holding the two sides together and they don't look too promising unfortunately. If anyone has any folding bike suggestions for a bigger person I'd love to hear them. All the other ones I've looked at top out at 200lb.

You don't want a bike from MW. At 250lbs you are over the max weight limit on some folding bikes, but in my experience the weight limits are conservatively stated and you can probably get by with a bike that has a stated 200lb weight limit, as long as you take some care when riding and don't haul 50lbs of gear. Check out this thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/archive/index.php/t-419329.html) for one person's experience with a Xootr Swift. Also, Bike Friday (http://www.bikefriday.com/2009) has bikes with a 220lb weight limit, and I think they can customize the bikes for heavier riders. Good luck!

The bike in the link looks like the folding mechanism isn't the greatest.It may not have a stated weight limit, but that hinge will wear out quickly and the single downtube frame does not inspire confidence.

If you want something indestructible, I second the suggestion to check out Worksman Cycles folders.

If you don't mind a bigger fold, a Montague will probably suit you.

Sure, Bike Friday can make a good bike that will fit inkysquid to a T, but at more than four times the price of the MW bike. How about a Downtube 8FS or 9FS? They list maximum rider weight at 245 lbs and are much closer to the price range of the MW.
