Northern California - Delta Century Ride Report

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
First off, I took a total of 2 pictures. I'll post them after dinner.
The folks that put on the ride did a pretty good job with all the logistics. However, the rain dissolved some of the turn markers. Other than that, it went well.
We ended up missing a turn right before lunch and it took a while to sink in. As a result, we came in with 112.2 miles with an avg speed of 14.7. Total climbing was a little over 1000 feet. Very flat ride.
We were rained on for more than 50 miles of the ride. That wasn't too much trouble, other than the spots all over the glasses making it hard to see. And then wet feet. I hate when my feet are wet. It was also a bit windy. I think 16mph winds to deal with as well.
At one point a little before the ferry, Bess went right off the road. I think she zoned out a bit. Thankfully she found the only really soft dirt in the area to crash in. The only thing damaged was her pride. Not even a bit of road rash.
So that's 2 centuries for me this year. With another coming up in 3 weeks.
Oh, there's no way I want to sit on my bike for long enough to ride the Davis Double. Today was about as long as I care to ride (at least for now).
Congrats Joel. It seems like everyone can award themselves and official NorCal HTFU pin for their efforts this weekend.
Yeah, it was wet. And I mucked up my right knee at one of the rest stops. Apparently my right cleat got a bit jammed and I twisted my knee unclipping. It hurts!

1,000 feet of climbing? I call "shenanigans." There aren't 1,000 feet of elevation gain on all the levees in the state. I'd guess it's more like 37.56 feet of climbing. ;)
Glad to hear you had a good ride, Joel. Sorry about the knee. Don't force it - let it heal.

I'm really impressed seeing that you were struggling on that Auburn loop back in August. Great job!

I'm still a positive maybe.
i was there last weekend
and that was my first century, and i was suprised at how well i did
my total riding time was 5:08
i found a fast group of 3 other people stayed with them the whole way
but i dropped them on the last 1/2 mile
it was like the highlight of my year

That's pretty fast with the wind. Well done.
