I think so. It seems like there was a little wire d-ring on the right sihfter. Rotating the d-ring one way made it index, the other way made it a friction shifter. You could change from one to the other on-the-fly.

Yes they will run in either... decent shifters (like you can really make a bad downtube shifter?) :D

I could make a bad downtube shifter! how does a stick and a thread spool sound? with bailing twine for a cable! :)
