hey all -- i'm looking for a new race frame to replace one that i broke in a nasty crash. i'm definitely leaning toward the caad9. are there other frames with a similar price and geometry that i should be adding to my list? i'm looking for something that is cheap and functional and am not that concerned with image or weight.

budget is under $1000. thanks for all the replies. lots of bikes i haven't considered. the bmc and hellafaster look solid.

I personally know the Spooky guys and have seen the Skeletor up close. It's ridden by the local elite amateur team, Spooky/NCC/Kenda. I would say, yes, the price is very reasonable for a 1kg aluminum frame, and the guys on the team all love it. It's a bike intended to be functional, not to be beautiful. You can see the welds, sure, but that's not a quality thing, it's about not spending time and money on pointless beauty work. The Skeletor is intended to be a bare-bones, inexpensive but high-performance race bike, and it does that job extremely well.

Actually, $1295 for the frame, headset and Edge fork. $850 for the frame only.

CAAD9's start around $1050 for a complete bike.

I really want a white caa9 to replace my current bike with a cracked seat tube but I dont know if I can wait the 4-6 weeks to have one come in.

That Le Champion frame is a pretty good deal. It would also give you the chance to pick your pieces and to not skimp on any of the components, as BD tends to do, i.e., saddle, chain, crank ("10 Speed 50/34t (or 36t, no choice")), brakes, wheelset, tires ("Vittoria Diamante Prolite or Kenda Kaliente IronCloak Kevlar (no choice))", etc.

This frame along with a Performance Forte carbon/aluminum fork is the backbone of my crit bike. I put the bike together using parts and the components from my older cannondale with 105's, along with and other parts left from my son's upgrades to his Felt.. The only other parts I needed to buy was a new headset and cables and housing. At $79 for the frame and less than $80 for the fork I've got an inexpensive bike and it won't matter if I crash it. It is not the same ride as my Roubaix Expert but will do just fine in crits. I did a break-in ride last week of 44 miles with about 5,100' of climbing and decent with no problems or harsh ride issues.

i didn't know the le champion was sold as a frame.... that might end up being my pick if i can get over how ugly it is. the spooky with the edge fork is my new dream bike.

The Ritchey Pro fork seems like the best deal. ~$200 online and 345 grams uncut, verified by weight weenies and in a 45mm rake.

I wanted to get a reynolds ouzo pro fork.

i just lost an older full carbon reynolds ouzo a few months ago. i never knew how good i had it.
