So, I was part of the big group buy a year and a half ago or so and ended up not getting in on a bike. Ever since then I've lusted for a Rob Roy. Now I have some fundage, but looked on IRO's website only to find they have been discontinued (as Tony said they would).

Was wondering if anyone might know where I can get a frameset? I know they must still be floating around out there. Does anyone have one for sale? A 58?

Thanks

Weren't you the guy that put that group buy together?

Anyway, you can get the Motobecane Uno frameset (http://bikeisland.com/cgi-bin/BKTK_STOR20.cgi?Action=Details&ProdID=1237) for $200 or so, that's pretty similar.

I remember that you got disgusted with the deal and got a Crosscheck, right?

FWIW, there is a 60cm Rob Roy in the Iro Bargain Basement (http://www.irocycle.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=165) right now. I also saw a larger orange frameset on the Chicago Craigslist a month or so ago. It might not have sold since the seller was in the western burbs. You might want to post up a WTB ad there.

There's a 53 on eBay right now.

Ha ha ha, you guys have a good memory ;)

Yeah, so now I have the Cross Check and spend loads more time riding with my wife and daughter. My wife loves my Cross Check and I've decided to add a similar style bike to the stable for her to ride at the sacrifice of my roadie that sees almost no use. I would be picking up another Cross Check but I don't think I can get one at the same price as a Rob Roy.

Interesting this has come full circle for me. I started my search for Cross Checks and started branching out my thoughts to see if a wider range would yield more possibilities within budgetary constraints. Had an epiphany...Rob Roy. If I could find a used frameset I'd be in for exactly what I bargained for.

I don't hold anything against Tony, btw, and part of why I ended up jumping ship was also budgetary constraints at that time.

Anyways, thanks for the ideas guys.

Good luck with your search. My group buy Rob Roy is my favorite bike and it sees far more use than the other ones.

+1

I have three CX bikes and the RR is by far my favorite. Why it was replaced with the poorly thought out Phoenix is beyond me.

I think pricepoint has some completes in stock, actually.
