Hi all, in July I finally get a chance to return to Colorado for a vacation (I haven't been there in almost 10 years). We're spending four days in the Snowmass/Aspen area (Snowmass Village to be exact), and then 4 days in Estes Park.
I know in Estes Park we can simply ride into RMNP, and I intend to do that, but I'd like to get an idea of what other things I could do out there (We'll be taking mountain bikes).

My skill level is between beginner and intermediate when it comes to mountain biking. My wife is definitly a beginner.

Any suggestions? Thanks a ton :)

Just making sure, but you are aware that mountain bikes are not allowed on the trails in RMNP right? They are also not allowed in any designated wilderness area, and much of the forest surrounding the park is wilderness area. You can ride the roads in the park though.

That said, there is plenty of riding near Estes Park on the foothills side and lots around Snowmass. If you are beginners, look for the fire/4WD roads. There are some great 4WD roads between the Aspen Valley and the Vail area and some others that go to Crested Butte. These are on most topo maps and there is a book of 4WD roads in CO you can buy.

I had actually intended to ride on the roads and not the trails, I guessed that it wouldn't be allowed, but it's good to know for sure:) Thanks.

I'll make sure to check those trails near Estes and Snowmass

I don't mountain bike much anymore, but let me know if you want suggested hiking trails in RMNP. The park is suffering severe forest die-off from the beetles right now and some areas may be closed because of fire danger.

There is a brand new trail from Aspen to Glenwood Springs and back. 44 miles each way. Beautiful paved trail.

For hiking, park in the Bear Lake parking lot and hike the three lakes, dream, emerald, and nymph.

Cross the park and hike one of the loops that goes up to big meadow.
