It's a 2003 Santa Cruz Roadster with Mavic Ksyrium Elite Rims, Ultegra Cranks, BB, Brakes, Pods, etc., Easton EC 90 Carbon Forks, EC70 Carbon Seatpost, Easton EA70 Bars, Vredestein Fortezza Tires and a Selle San Marco Seat. I paid $1,300 shipped. What do you think? Good Deal?

They're actually loose in the pic. I am still adjusting everything. The entire bike was taken apart for shipping purposes.

I think that's the biggest picture I've ever seen on my computer. Nice looking bike - I could really see the detail if not the whole bike at a glance.

Those are the Crankbrothers Mallet C's. I ride with sneakers a lot just for a trip up the street.

I do have the Kryptonite New York Fahgedaboudit lock but I know people that easily get through those so It goes everywhere I go. I never leave my bikes out.

My fahgadaboudit lock is 1/3rd the weight of my bike. I stopped carrying it around for short trips, that thing is MASSIVE.

I don't know why it's like that but it certainly looks pretty good. I did a lot of research and found this frame. I wanted a good, light and sturdy frame that looked nice. I ride Santa Cruz snowboards and have always ridden SC Skateboards as a kid so I know they make a good product.

I still need to adjust it tomorrow (well, today) but I took it for a test ride and the bike is very very fast.

for $1,300, you got a BOMB deal, tell me who was that dealer, I'll get one myself, the ksyrium alone would cost you around $700.00, plus the components, wow, that's not only a good deal but the deal no one should miss....

Shortens the wheelbase of the bike while still allowing for clearance of the tire.
I would expect the ride to be quick, almost to the point of twitchy. Usually see
this on TT bikes (See Lances's Trek, Cervelo P2 or P3 forget which), and on Tri
bikes (quintana Roo etc.).

The ride actually is twitchy. I feel like I'm going to twist the bike around when I pedal hard. It is really fast.

The seatpost isn't on backwards, I was just trying the riding position. It's back the other way now.

I got it off of eBay. It didn't sell for his reserve and I offered 1,200 and we agreed on 1,300 shipped. I guess it worked out.

I thought it was mainly aero, but there's a conspiracy theory somewhere on this forum suggesting that they only do it to shorten the chainstays as much as possible to make the alu less likely to bust :)

That's what I heard also.

conspiracy or not, the fact is that a shorter chainstay places more weight on your rear wheel. which gives better grip on the rear wheel. which makes you faster. the penalty is the ride is harsher.

Yeah, but they do this with other materials too...

I think it's mainly done to tuck the wheel in for shorter chainstay length and better climbing and acceleration and/or to improve aerodynamics.

Your new bike is nice, well worth the wait I'd imagine. That Aegis is ridiculous, I've never seen it and I don't know if I should have, everything else will seem so not aerodynamic.

I agree. The Kestrel somewhat resembles mine. I like it.

well, there's also the cervelo p2k (http://www.cervelo.com/images/2004/2004-P2K-full.jpg) and the litespeed blade (http://www.litespeed.com/images/large_bikes/blade_lg.jpg), which used to look a lot cooler, IMO...more exaggerated aero sections. there was a track version of one of the early incarnations of the blade on ebay a couple weeks back that used a 650c front wheel. lots of folks on the fixie forum were drooling over it.

actually, the reason they do it on tri-bikes is that their position is so far forward that there is not enough weight on the rear wheel, and too much on the front. it makes for dangerous handling. so basically, they hold the rider stationary, and shift the wheels forward. id you notice how the front wheel on that aeigis is kicked out really far? its to balance the rider's weight between the two wheels. I'll bet it handles kind of nice while "aero"
