Great Lakes - N.E. Ohio C&V Rides

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

so who wants to get the ball rolling with ideas?
How did you folks like the Bike & Hike trail?
Same location or new one?
Longer or shorter?
Should this be a weekend thing, bi-weekly, or monthly?
Or should it just be planned for whenever? (thursdays, wednesday evening night ride, etc.)
Let's here some ideas!
I'm going to pass on the initial ideas since I missed the last ride (still shaking this cough) but I'll weigh in on the ideas that I like.

I have much more time and flexibility on the weekends. How would planning on twice a month, and we alternate between North / South / East / West starting points. Are we thinking trails, roads or a mix of the two?

i'm not a huge fan of roads solo but riding in a group i don't mind it. i think as long as it's paved it would work.
weekends usually work for me too. i've been getting the weekends of for some reason (retail) but since my schedule is "flexible" it might not always be the case.
north/south/east/west alternating sounds like a good idea but we'd need to determine what trails/roads those are and how far in each of those directions we'd want to set the start. if we go west from the previous location are we talking the towpath or are we talking dayton? the route would need something interesting like a landmark or just general scenic riding with a total distance of about 40 miles or so, maybe a loop of 20 done twice.
come to think of it the CVSR has their $2 one-way fare for cyclists on the towpath. that's about 40 miles...
They also have short track races(RATL) around that lake in the park on weekends.
Sorry I missed the ride last weekend but I,m down with a regular spin in that area on weekends.
I nominate Chip as host of activities.Would beer be factored in(strickly medicinal)the post ride at one of the local historic gin mills?

This is the last weekend for RATL.

My schedule is *usually* wide open because I work midnights. I can ride during the weekdays and weekends and just change my sleeping accordingly. I would like to be able to commit to regular group rides but at the moment I don't know.
How about we just plan an upcoming ride and see how that goes. The CVSR thing sounds pretty cool. I have to say riding in a group was way more fun than solo.

Anyone up for doing the next ride on the nortern portion of the Summit trail up into the Cleveland Metroparks going east? We could start at a point somewhere between 303 and 82 and go towards and into Solon and perhaps down to Chagrin Falls area. It would be a decent number of miles and a bit more rolling/hilly terrain for part of it (note: the hills are not tough ones at all).
How would Sunday morning, starting about 11 AM work?

I am up for a Sunday ride, 11am works for me too.

I'm still up for Sunday at 11. I liked the idea of starting further north to see more of the path.

Where are you from? We could start at the same spot and just head way north and double back.

sonatageek, care to weigh in? i like sunday @ 11a
mkeller234

I am from Canton, so meeting at the same spot is probably closer for me anyhow. I haven't seen a post from sonatageek in a few days, he may chime in this weekend.

We would like to have you along any time.
OK, this is the plan for the moment. We will meet at the exact same spot as last time, point 8 on the summit county MUP in Munroe falls. If Sonatageek chimes in tonight with a different location thats fine because it never hurts to mix it up.
Make sure to check early sunday before you get in your car!

what will be the starting point?
mkeller234
05-09-09, 09:04 PM
Ok, here is the starting point:
SR 91 lot:
130 N. Main St.
Munroe Falls
I will be in the parking lot at 11:00 am, anyone who wants to join is more than welcome. I will wait around for a bit in case anyone is running late (including myself).
I'd like to attend, but alas, I will not be returning to Ohio for some time...
Hey D, what'da mean you won't be back to Cleveland for a while... didn't you see our new tourism videos in this thread: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=540029 :roflmao2::roflmao2::roflmao2:

Memorial day weekend should be a good time for another ride.

I'd love to ride with you guys if you don't mind dead weight. Just give me a good map so I can figure my way back once I get dropped like a bad habit. :)
Oh, and obviously I'm in Columbus so please at least attempt to avoid anything earlier than 10am so I can get my booty up there in time. Thanks!

If you guys are game for it, I've been scouting some routes through Amish country in Summit/Wayne/Holmes counties. I'm thinking either Saturday or Memorial day, since there would be really no place to stop and get a bite on Sunday. I'll even print some cue sheets. Easy paced ride. but could be a metric.
michaelwc
05-18-09, 02:17 PM
wait, when's memorial day?
pardon my youthful ignorance.
EDIT: google to the rescue. That would probably be better for me than this coming saturday. I'm thinking we should set up a regular day(s) for this so those of us with hourly jobs and flexible schedules can plan for the occurance.

No such thing as dead weight! If you are up on the seat and moving forward, well it is all good.
Did anyone bother to ask Mitch to ride the gritty Tow Path this holiday weekend?

Saturday is the JJJ from Lorain county Chip. Any interest. Leinad and I did it last year and had a blast...

Is Memorial day good for you?
A metric is a metric century. 100km = 62mi
(helluva long ride IMO)

I think memorial day is going to be perfect for me, my wife works so no guilt going out for a ride. 62 miles does sound long but I think I can do it.

Well it looks like we have two choices that folks can ride either one or both (I'm gonna try both). Cheri isn't ready for a century yet, but 50 miles she might handle. I'm looking at routes of 30ish or 50ish miles through Amish country for Monday too. It would be a metric or more if riding from my house, but we can always start in Dalton for a shorter loop through the heart of the Amish farmland.
So folks can ride the JJJ on Saturday, and/or we can do a Monday ride if there is interest to do so.
I got the garden in last weekend...I'm gonna loaf on my bike all this holiday weekend. ;)
FYI, Amish country is the perfect place for vintage bikes and retro non-roadie clothing.
Cept for the gals of course, everyone appreciates a purdy gurl in spandex. :D
I'm in for monday if you set it up Chip! Post your final idea here for where and when.

I may modify the route to a shorter, easier one closer to home and save the Amish Metric for later in the season. I'll start mapping something and creating a cue sheet. Maybe an 11ish start, meet up at Silver Creek metro park? I wonder of Hartzlers or anyplace will be open for munchies on Monday? We may end up stopping at some Circle K or something.

would we be able to push it back to 12:30 start? I work til noon (stupid retail ::grumble:: ) I think it would also help with the family plans.
Pot luck?
I don't think Potato Salad would do well in a rack bag after a ride. ;)
