I am planning on biking a little in Coastal Oregon, but don't have a lot of time. I'll need to rent a bike, spend a few hours max, and then return it so I can get to Seattle. I'm going to be in Tillamook and I wanted to do the Three Capes Loop. I hear it's about 38 miles, mixing road and trail. There is another option, which is to go from Tillamook to Cape Meares, down to Netarts, and back to Tillamook. That's about 20 miles total, also mixing road and trail.

Firstly, how many hours should each of these rides take? Secondly, does anyone know a good bike rental place right around Tillamook or in the neighborhood of the Three Capes? Lastly, are there any other good places to rent a bike and ride around for a few hours north of Tillamook along the Oregon coastline? I'm looking mainly for spectacular scenery.

Thanks

Spectacular scenery is what you will certainly get! That is probably the most scenic part of the Oregon coast. As for bike rental shop, I wouldn't have a clue. I know of some places in Eugene (Paul's or Wheelworks) and Corvallis (Bike & Hike, Corvallis Cyclery), but no idea for the Tillamook area. Maybe contact the Chamber of Commerce for Tillamook. They might be able to help you.

If I were doing these rides, I would plan two to three hours for each. Photo ops, no hurry, medium speed (14-17 mph).

Enjoy the rides! Have fun and happy trails.

I love riding in that area. Three Capes Scenic loop is wonderful. I also like cycling the Nehalem/Manzanita area. Plan as much time as you can, because the scenery is great. If you make it to Oceanside, there's a fun coffee house/motel right above the park parking lot.

As for bike rentals, I'm not certain if there's a place in Tillamook or not. I've been to a bike shop in Canon Beach, and finding them online and calling them may not be a bad idea for advice if you can't find a Tillamook bike shop.

Thanks for getting back to me! Just to let you know, I decided to do the shorter loop, from Tillamook to Cape Meares to Netarts and back to Tillamook, and to rent from a bike shop called Trask Mountain Cycle in Tillamook.
