Someone is selling a Colnago locally and it appears to be a Mexico. It has Super Record components. It is hard to tell from the picture whether there is any pantographing, but assuming there is not, what would a standard Mexico go for?

Thanks!

I grossly underpaid for mine....$260.

Bare frames are going for $600 on ebay.

Picchio Special

So much depends on the era. In the early 80's, the Mexico was basically a Super with lighter tubing. Also, a lot of Mexicos are misidentified by sellers, usually inadvertently, because they're fooled by the seattube decal referencing Eddy Merckx's hour record set in Mexico City in '72. Supers and Mexicos of a certain time frame both have this decal. It's so hard to say anything without pics. I'd say a basic, nothing special, no panto Mexico in decent condition was an $800 bicycle a couple of years ago, but then the Saronni red ones started going for silly money - at least some of them did. With the economy, prices are back down somewhat. Early 80's Colnagos with SR components are overpriced much beyond that $800 mark, IMO.

I called the owner to get more information. He thinks it is a 1972 model. He said that it has a Nuovo Record rear derailleur and that the parts are original save for the seat (Cinelli) and aero brake levers. Did they make the Mexico in the 1970s? For some reason, I thought they were from the 80s and came with Super Record components. I think I'll take a look at it this Friday to get some pictures and more info.

I'm not a Colnago expert by any stretch but yes, they did make a Mexico in the 70's. The Mexico is named in honor of Merckx's hour record in Mexico City in October of 1972 so the 'Mexico' model would have been started sometime after that.

Just a guess but I wouldn't be surprised if the seller mistook the 'hour record' sticker for one indicating the model & year... (overheard: "if it says "Mexico 1972" it must be a mexico made in '72, right?")

If its really a '72, its not a mexico... I believe the first year they were made was '75.
