Triathlon - What should I wear in a duathlon?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I am doing a duathlon at the end of the month. It is a 1.86 mile run, 10 mile bike, 1.86 run, 10 mile bike, and 1.86 mile run. I am thinking of running in my regular bib shorts, or do I need to buy a tri-suit? It will be my first one, so my goal is too finish.

I've done bricks in my bike shorts. Besides it feeling like a diaper, you'll finish just fine.
If you get into it, then consider buying tri shorts, etc.

Is it seriously 2 bike legs & 3 run legs? Or did you just stutter while typing??
I dig tri suits. I wear my 2XU suit for bricks and I love it.
It is 3 runs and 2 bike rides. It is at Watlkins Glen International Race Track on May 30.
I love those types of races.

That's crazy (I hate running). Good luck, sounds hard!!
I have been looking at tri-suits/shorts for a bit now, and they all seem to have a thin chamois compared to bike short. Along with different materials, the chamois is designed to dry real fast after the swim. If you don't mind the small chamois, a tri-suit is fine.
In reality, this being your first race...go with what you have and just use bike shorts that aren't too bad to run in.

I did my 1st Duathlong with a PI onesie and then over that a thermal top with a PI long sleeve biking jersey over that. But then threw on a Columbia waterproof jacket over that. And the bottoms I had over the bibs a Starter tights from Walmart. I ran 2, biked 10 and then 2 after that with crazy steep rolling hills the whole way. I didn't notice my bibs one bit.
I'm also a horrible runner and they didn't bother me. They just feel weird at first.

10 miles at a time is nothing, your butt will be fine in non padded shorts. Or get tri shorts. You don't need a tri suit. I did a du this weekend and wore tri shorts that have basically no padding and was fine. It was only 14 miles and while hilly and incredibly windy, took very little time.
Good luck! sounds like a fun race!
