I have the 2007 Kona Jake with the aluminum fork, is a carbon fork that much better for racing? Also what is a good wheelset. My budget for both the fork and wheelset is $1100.00
Are you sure your fork is aluminum? I've got a 2008 Jake, and I assumed for a while that the fork was aluminum since the frame was and the spec didn't say otherwise. Then one day I was looking at forks on bikeman.com, and they said how they loved the steel Kona Project 2 fork. Looking at it, I thought, "Hey, that looks just like my fork!" So I grabbed a magnet, and guess what?
If your fork turns out to be steel, a carbon fork would be about a pound lighter, but also comparatively breakable.
Are you still running the Tiagra components? I upgraded the shifters and derailleurs to 105 (FD)/Ultegra (everything else), and let me tell you, it makes a big difference.
