Southern California - Umd

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Or not tired. OK Santa Monica Mountains locals, this is your opportunity to ride along with the likes of umd -- when his legs are jelly. What say we get together and show him some what for tomorrow? I haven't ridden in 5 days, so I'll either be well rested or rusty. Route and meal destination to be determined. Climbing will be involved.
What's the plan Kidd?

Where exactly are you staying, maybe you could drive down to PV this week in the AM and we can do a short ride around the loop before I go to work.

How was your day? Get all the riding in that you wanted? Are you in Westlake? We could meet up at the base of Piuma 1ish, maybe 2 pm, roll on up to Saddle peak, then drop into Topanga via Fernwood, have a bite to eat, then you can head back via Old T and Mulholland. I'm gonna have to keep my riding in the sub 3 hour range because I've got plenty to do at home.
My Sram build is mostly done. I have the cassette to install, but can't find my chain whip. May have to make a whip. Or just ride with the former Ultegra.
Ideas for riding?
Nick, I'm in westlake. I'd like to stay local, I'm going to go mountain biking with my father in law in the morning and them.meet up with kiddsisko in the afternoon.

Up and over Topanga Canyon, then west on Mulholland, then a left on Cold Canyon Rd to Piuma. 1 is good for me too. I'll PM you my cell#

I'll try to get there as close to 1 as I can... if you aren't there I'll backtrack your route to Topanga.

Unlikely
They downgraded our area to "evacuation warning" so we are back in our house tonight. Thanks for everyone's support.
I had a nice ride with KiddSisko btw :thumb:
good to hear you're ok (for now at least).

It was nice! I learned a few things: that it is possible to talk and climb at the same time, and that ice is our friend. :D
Post the pics of our meal. It'll be a perfect illustration as to why you're not too fat for this sport.
For your self-admitted lack of descending skills, you did really well on Fernwood. While keeping up with you I realized that I'm going to miss my 53 chainring.
I look forward to the next time.
Wash your bike. That is all.

I love my water cold.

It's all relative I suppose. It helps I had been down it the previous day but some guys are so fearless going down descents it's hard to keep up in races.
I look forward to the next time.
I too

Just for you I'll clean it tonight :D

What you're missing are the sweet potato fries, sprinkled lightly with crunchy sea salt. Incredible. Initially the waitress came back and said they're out of the regular potatoes, so I opted for the sweet potato fries. Then she came back and said the cook was wrong and they did have regular potatos. So I said I'll take both.
Yes, I could have polished off those crepes as well.
His looked really good too but I still had about 30 miles and 4,000 feet of climbing to go!

How went the remainder of your ride? That last 1000 feet get to you?
