Folding Bikes - I think I'm in love...

Saw a guy on the Metro just moments ago. He has an uber-customized Dahon Mu frame with dura ace drivetrain, american classic hubs, super-light low-spoke wheelset, and schwalbe kojak tires, and a custom gunmetal gray paint job. :love: The bike is light--not as light as the 25th anniversary Dahon, but lighter than a stock MuSL. Can you say droooooooool-worthy? :D

The moment he rolled into the carriage and I saw the dura ace logo on his cranks, my jaw dropped and my heart started pounding. Aaaaaah...I am in bike love. :love: Didn't get to ask him about the other components, but he did say that he won the bike in an international photo contest and he got to customize it any way he wanted. (Btw, he is a very talented photographer! No wonder he won the contest. Check out his works at www.fotographz.com (http://www.photographz.com)).

Wasn't able to take a pic, as I thought it'd be rude to ask for a photo op, plus I barely had time to exchange business cards with him before my stop--i was totally ogling. But if I see the guy again I will totally get my camera and start snapping pics. I hope he comes to the next socal folder ride so I can drool some more and get some nice pics...:p

In other news, today was totally foldies day, as I saw two vintage u-frame folders and a MuXL on campus, a Glide on the bus I rode, and the guy with uber-custom Mu frame on the Metro. Yay foldies! I love that the folderitis is catching on...much like the swine flu :lol:

Stripped the frame over the weekend, and everything's going into an oxalic acid bath next weekend (not this coming one, because I'm busy :(). So excited!!!

He sounded like he totally loves the bike and uses it to commute around town a lot.

Wow, nekohime, I can't believe you saw Frank's bike! I'm so jealous of him. I wanted to win that bike so badly. I ended up getting 3rd place...so close!! Btw, Dahon was really cool. They ran out of one of the prizes and gave me a pair of Big Apple tires instead.

Thanks rbrian! The camera was mounted with a Magic Arm to the head stem. I actually sort of like the second place picture. I can see why Dahon chose it because they were going for more of a "lifestyle" type picture. In hindsight, my picture needed a bit of a tilt to the horizon to make it more dynamic, some more color and less of my hairy leg on the left side :lol:

It is ~300 g lighter, depending on saddle choice.

I do judge a man partly by the bike he rides, and yes, man and bike were both fine specimens... :thumb::innocent:

Honestly, I didn't think I'd be excited over restoring the moulton, but I'm finding the process quite fun.:thumb:
