This is one of my favorite organized rides - the Skagit Spring Classic, Saturday May 9, starting in Burlington, Wa.

One of the great things about this ride is the variety and the number of different loops you can do -- there are 25, 45, 62 and 100-mile options.

It includes the flats of the Skagit Valley, the beautiful coastline ride up Chuckanut Drive, and riding by the shores of Lake Whatcom and Lake Samish. Not much climbing - one notable hill on Bow Hill Drive, the rest that I recall as easy rollers.

Not sure if I'll do it or not - last year I did the century route, but cut out a portion of it and did about 80 easy miles.

I've heard it's a great ride, but I'll be taking the opposite tack that day and stuffing my self silly at the Polish Home all-you-can-eat pierogi feast!

The following weekend is the Tour de Cure (see my sig) and I'll be riding the century on my singlespeed.

I wonder if all the tulip people will be gone by this weekend. I have ridden in Mt. Vernon during the tulip festival, and you run a high risk of being crunched by a tour bus or some nearsighted person driving a land barge.

I wish it was not so far to drive :( . I love the Samish Flats (incredible bird watching to be found there).

Last year the tulips were gone and the roads were very quiet.

I was out their 2 weeks ago (rode up Whidbey) and the tulips seem to be just blooming. My guess is that it's tapering off? Lot's of cars that weekend, Fortunately I was not cycling at that point.

It was a tough decision.

a. Do the Skagit Classic Century again.
b. Feast on way too many pierogi at Dom Polski.

Kasia & I are going with option (b).

That said, we enjoyed the ride last year. There's a lot of chip seal, but the views along Puget Sound make it worth it.
