You might also want to ping SteveE about these brakes. When I asked about them in another thread, he said he rode with the Webcor guys. From his accounts, Webcor is very pleased with them. They're lighter than Shimano D-A and work just as well. They're on my upgrade list.

Expensive upgrade list, over $300 for the calipers only.
70 grams lighter than Cane Creek ti, 120 grams lighter than shimano or
campy.

Yeah, I saw those brakes. To be honest, i think the price is bit ludacrous, so I automatically discounted them. In comparison, they're almost the same price as a pair of mountainbike hydraulic discs, and twice the price of Record.

The design looks solid though, and if they afford over 100g weight savings then they certainly have some merit there. I just don't know if the cost is justifiable. I think road brakes is a bit of an untapped market for the aftermarket. I emailled Paul about them and he never got back to me, but if someone can come up with a neat, simple design, or heck, just do a superlight CNC'd version of the standard dual pivot, there's probably some cash to be made.

The road market is certainly bigger than the "those that bemoan the death of Mafac" market, that's for sure.

I think the road market is definately improving all around. My FBS and most of the LBSes around here seem to have their RB selection overgrowing their MTB and hybrid selection. This is quite the opposite of what was happening 5 years ago.

I saw those before, but the price will definitely put off quite a few people ($790). They do look cool though. But for the 60g saved over the zero gravity brakes, I don't think the extra $467 is worth it ($7.78/g). In all seriousness, I noticed an increase in the number of roadie bikes I saw in shops in the Denver area over the weekend, and the shop I call second home in Oklahoma is the same way. It's become more and more popular, and the trend seems to be continuing.

I haven't seen anyone grinding down Beach Road on a huge Thylacine lately.

I'll give you a tip: there's a big difference between 11 degrees and 13 degrees -- 13 is almost 'mild' :D

That's because my mate who runs the LBS STILL HASN'T FINISHED MY WHEELS. Hopefully he heard that and has pulled his finger out of his bum and is frantically finishing them right now :) . I rode the singlespeed twice this week though- not down beach road obviously coz that'd be stupid - and hurt myself silly.

You're right tho' 531 - swanky brakes aren't gunna make much difference when my hands are blue. Not looking forward to that bayside headwind, especially in my sadly unfit condition.

The new Cane Creek are nice as are the Mavic brakes. All of em are pricey
but nowhere near the ax-lightness $790.
